2.40 to Bring XMB Clock

05/30/2008 Written by Anthony Severino

This just in…  The FW 2.40 info is just pouring in.

While this still isnt confirmed by Sony, yet another feature in 2.40 has been unearthed.

The XMB will now display the date and time in the upper right hand corner.

Rumor, until its finally confirmed officially.

Note: I just noticed you can actually see the clock in action, in the new trophy demonstration video posted by Medran of Maxconsole.

this one took a while, I mean with all that power and top end tech, you’d think that a simple clock feature would have been included since launch, its perplexing to think why they never added this, Is it really that hard? or processing power is compromise while having a digital clock??

    Maybe they just forgot,

never cared if there was a clock or not, but…yay clock

It’s not hard… the PSP has it.

the clock is great – i just wish they would give you the ability to arrange the clock, news ticker, and download updates to a user-specified corner of the screen. as is, the news ticker is overlapped when a d/l or mesage is recived, and is hard to read. (adjusting font sizes and colors would be a plus as well).

while all of this is great, i still don’t understand why the ps3 does not get rss threads or videostreams. you’d think they’d hook up with their 3rd party publishers who have them (such as criterion games), for psn-exclusive content, or at the least, make a deal with a site like ign or gametrailers to post reviews/trailers/interviews etc..

oh well, it’s a good thing sony has a 10-year plan, from the looks of it, it will take them that long to get everything right…hopefully nintendo & microsoft don’t blow them out of the water before then.

    FINALLY!

I always ‘automatically’ click the HOME button to see what time it is but alas, Sony forgot to put it there, it got really annoying.

    Finally, a solution.

  8. sev1512 Says:

Yes I did notice that, and always wondered why there wasnt a clock.

  9. BOB............. Says:

it also bring the date next to the clock

  10. Andrew Says:

I only need the clock when I press the Home button in a game. Sometimes I’m not wearing my watch so I can’t check the time.

[...] videos earlier, you can actually see the clock in action on the top-left. We didn’t notice it till PSLifestyle pointed it [...]

  16. West Coast G Says:

I always wondered why the PSP had it and not the PS3. I hope it something you could turn off like the news feed feature Sony has going on. I never use that. It just adds clutter to the XMB.

    Knave where you been bro?!?!

  18. claass21 Says:

Great stuff guys! Keep the info coming!!

  19. jack Says:

it seems they have basically taken someones list for making ps3 way better and put all the items on it in this update, loads of people did them on forums and they all had everything in this update in

  20. fanpages Says:

I would prefer to see a reference to the (Main or Sub) Account that is currently logged on, and possibly a count of the number of unread or new messages received since the list was last reviewed.

Yes, a clock is useful, but perhaps this could be shown (together with the above information I mentioned) when the “PS” button is pressed on the SIXAXIS/DUALSHOCK 3 controller instead.

    BFN,

    fp.
