SCEE Stops Production of The Getaway and 8 Days

In an unfortunate announcement made this morning by SCEE…
It was announced that SCEE is “stopping production” of The Getaway, and 8 Days.
Here is an excerpt form the official statement…
“It has been agreed that production of both Eight Days and The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of resources and budget.”
“This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resource should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion.”
Strange as I really thought that Sony was ramping up its first party titles, and since 8 Days was so far into development it seems like this was just a waste of time and money.

man I was really looking forward to these two titles, seeing as GTA4 didnt do it for me, and 8 days just looked mind blowing. to bad though.

yea, this is more of a money issue, they just cant cancel it, they know people have been waiting for these 2 games.

not only is it that they have people waiting, but also they have already spent money on both of these, they cant just let it go.

They have stopped it therefore they most likely will continue with the projects in the future. Right now, they want to focus on maximizing the potential of other games further in production. We don’t want any delays on those titles.

Looks like they used assets from GT5 for this game? Just from the screenshot. Or do you think they re-created this part of London for this pic? Or am I way off?

They aren’t losing money really - they all probably LEARNED from developing those games up to this point. They can take that knowledge (and parts of the code, assets from the game, etc.) to other projects to get them out the door faster. I’m not too worried about it.
When they finish other games and get them out the door, they will get MORE resources to go back and work on completing these games. I think it’s cyclical.
