FW 2.40 Is NOT Coming June 10th
We normally report good news, but its unfortunate that right now I am here to report BAD news.
I have just received word that the elusive, and anticipated firmware update 2.40 for the PlayStation 3 console, will NOT be available for update tomorrow.
I was also told its TRUE that the debug version did have some bugs. Exactly what bugs they are encountering is still unknown.
Rest assured that FW 2.40 is INDEED on its way and all the features we have leaked will be IN the update.
PlayStation LifeStyle will do our best to bring you the exact release date.
We will keep you updated, if any we receive any further information…

You know the drill – a few days before firmware updates, we give you the lowdown. That hasn’t changed.
What else hasn’t changed: if you don’t see it here, take what you read with a grain of salt.
NOTE: The good thing is that this would have been an opportunity for him to debunk FW 2.40 features, if they weren’t true.

Man sev i feel bad for you. Not because you did anything wrong, it happens with insider info like this. Its because people on n4g are going to ignore reason and understanding. They will opt you to say your not reliable and probably a whole bunch of people will complain about an unconfirmed date that was subject to change anyway for xmb and will most likely blame you.
Hopefully the xmb shows up on the 12 or 18 that would be nice
This might have hurt a lot if mgs4 wasnt releasing but since it is i can wait a month or two if need be.
hey just plz give us a date! now that we know all taht good stuff will be in it, now june 10 is gone. check out june 18 from your insiders quick! i really wanna know just hopefully not july
We all want to know a release date, hell, I want 2.40 on my PS3 right now!
However we will not announce another released date unless its concrete.
The release date we received before was always “subject to change” its unfortunate, but it HAS changed.

I cant comment on that because I havent heard back yet as to when.
Well we were told that 2.40 would come before MGS4 but apparently thats not the case anymore. OH well really. they are only taking the extra time to fix it so we get the best experience. I dont blindly follow Sony, but usually when rumors and videos come up of an update it means the update is close. id say 18th or maybe 25

Dont worry you guys I think it will be out this month the small bugs are only the issue, im pretty sure they will fix that in a few days or so, it shouldnt take another month for that unless it has a major problems,thanks Sev for the info
Sorry guys. But it appears 2.40 has been delayed. These things happen.
yeah mgs4 and battlefield bc both have trophies so i reckon they will be giving some info out this week

I’m still gun crazy on Call of Duty 4!
I’m now having to wait for call of Duty 6 cause Infinity Ward has to wait for number 6. Figures that COD5 has to go back to a WW2 theme…..

SONY has never made a official statement about the firmware 2.40, so dont get mad guys.
Maybe it will come on june 18 ,maybe before E3…

we all know how it is the software development business.
If they fund a bug and fix it , they have to check it all over again, against all the PS3 models ,on every game ,it take time.

yeah guys im dissapointed too but im sure it has to come this month because metal gear solid 4 has trophies in it and so battlefield bad company hell maybe the update will somehow be in metal gear solid 4 they were talking about there being a surprise in it
Technically, it isn’t even summer yet
It will be out soon enough. I would rather have them get a good product out than have a buggy one and wait for 2.41 or whatever.
I’d be even more sad if MGS wasn’t coming out this week.

Dude dont even say that. Dont.
Definitely not great news, but it’s still not horrible. Just means it may take another few weeks. The FW is basically done except for the bugs that popped up, so depending on the amount of bugs, the severity and the difficulty to fix… we still may not have to wait too much longer.
I still have hopes we will see this update very soon.
Hope it doesn’t take to long for them to fix the bugs or whatever stalls this update. Anyway, let’s enjoy the summer and MGS4 or play the waiting game.
BTW, has it ever been this much anticipation for a PS3 firmware update? I personally don’t think so.

The bad thing is by not debunking anything we still are left with no more information than when he posted that reply. He did not confirm, deny, or hint at any kind of fw release information.
