Rumor: Next FW Update is NOT 2.40
This morning I received some information that Sony will be releasing a minor FW update, to fix some security issues. Nothing else is known at this time.
I am reporting this to let you know that when you turn on your PS3 and see “System Software Update Required” that it wont be the elusive and much anticipated 2.40 FW.
This is sure to anger a lot of PlayStation fans, but dont be upset. Sony is working hard to make sure FW 2.40 reaches us without any bugs…
We will let you know if we find out any more details…

I am happy that Sony is going to be sure that they release this working properly. Maybe we will only see have as many threads about the update killing consoles because of it. LOL

I read from neogaf that this update will include, apart from the security updates, PS3 games stability. If this is true, I hope GTA4 is included in this list. Hasn’t anyone heard about that? or at least if it’s coming this week? That is, of course, if it is true.

stability update’s are done before BIG changes to the console like the one before the store revamp etc..

2 weeks left this month….. who thinks they can still squeeze 2.4?? I’m starting to get a bit worried. Does anyone know if they will have private in-game chats? so i can talk to freinds while im playing MGS4?

Good news. Shows they are making progress towards releasing 2.40. Im guessing that this is going to be out on the 18th, the day that 2.40 was rumored to come out?
@ Prolo - IMO I doubt 2.40 will be released before the end of the month. I wouldnt mind being wrong on this though lol

cant w8 for this update.It gives me something to look forward to since PLAYSTATION HOME cant stick release date.that reminds me is their any new information on PLAYSTATION HOME

Sony has to many excuses. First the home being delayed. They promised it would be out in spring. delayed till next year now, What’s next 2.40 canceled or something. This really bugs me

I hope they are not planning to do some kind of marketing thing that is delaying 2.4….like saving it for E3. SONY should just get this baby out, so at E3 they do not have to hear where’s 2.4.
-They should focus on HOME, new add ons(wii remote, skate board, playstation eye) and the games coming later this year. The video and music store. Ipod support?

How can you say 2.40 is cancelled? The only thing Sony has said, is that it should come during the summer. There are a lot of summer left, so nothing to shoot Sony for.
It’s better to wait a little longer, and get a good product, than rush it and get a mediocre product. With that said though, I want Home and 2.40 to be here now to. Let’s have some patience and play some games in the meantime. That’s what the PS3 is for anyway;)
