Firmware 2.40 Not to Immediately Follow Today’s Network Maintenance
Many sites have been saying this all along, but finally we have word from a Sony employee on the Official European PlayStation forums. He confirms that the 2.40 Software Update will not immediately follow today’s scheduled network maintenance:
The PLAYSTATION Network will be offline for 5 hours today from 3pm BST (4pm CEST) for maintenance work. It’s pretty much all behind-the-scenes work and is, most definitely, not the 2.4 System Software update. Sorry, you need to wait a little longer for that one!
Looks like we will have to wait a little longer before we finally get our hands on In-Game XMB and Trophies.

I wouldn’t say the maintenance doesn’t have anything to do with 2.40. They could be prepping for the release of it, similar to other big updates. He just said the maintenance isn’t the update.

Hooray! But ya know… couldn’t they have said this yesterday and head off all this other nonsense? Oh well.
We still know 2.40 is close, so we’ll be seeing it soon enough.

I agree with Manbearpig. 5 hours (especially during the day, in the US atleast) doesnt sound like regular maintenance. However, I still dont expect to see 2.40 for a couple weeks yet.

i messaged a handful of my PSN friends about it ’cause it wasn’t announced on the Playstation Blog. gave them the time frame and everything. i’ll have to thank Sony for making me look like an ass ’cause the PSN is still up and running. lol

store’s bak up but who knows for how long. the whole network’s been on and off all day. it’s starting to make me a little coocoo. although i have been up since 8pm (Central) jumping from site to site, trying to make heads or tails of the whole thing. (no rest for the wicked). and where the hell’s the Playstation Blog announcement about this?!? i’m sure there’s alot of confused (AKA: pissed off) gammers out there. HELLO??? anyway, hope the madness ends soon.
