SOE President Shares Feelings Regarding MMOs on the PS3

MCVuk recently held an interview with John Smedley (President, Sony Online Entertainment), regarding the connections SOE has with the PlayStation Network, and the possibility of Massively Multiplayer Online Games on the PlayStation 3.

It’s a very interesting read, and I will say that once the install base grows a little more, I believe the PS3 could handle large-scale MMOs just fine. With out-of-the-box USB Keyboard, Mouse, and Headset support, chat-intensive and communication-heavy games would seem to be a no-brainer fit, right? Also, with the advent of Firmware 2.40, the structure needed to fully support such communicative games will be laid in place.

What do you think?

OK guys what do you think HOME is about! It needs the same technology as an MMO and as such would make MMO’s just as viable a gaming platform for the PS3 as it would for PC’s and with PC’s starting to decline with the advent of internet online with gaming consoles making consoles the next platform for Personal Computing…if I could have a family chat with my relatives around the world on my TV or computer screen the which would you chose…I have been waiting for this technology since watching technology films from my grade school days of the 60’s.

Anybody really know how long the telcos have had the ability to do the internet video conferencing they are now claiming can be done??? Well in my research it has been sitting in the lab since 1958, and now we have the technology to make it realtime without the delays…

So MMORPG’s should be no problem for the PS3…

I had a USB keyboard for my 3, and my mouse actually worked well since it was a ball-track style… It’s about time to bring MMOG’s to the 3. I’m sure it can handle the workload, especially with bi-monthly firmware updates.
