Three Speech Interviews Ray MaGuire

ThreeSpeech Interview

ThreeSpeech Interview

Our friends over at Three Speech had the opportunity to ask Sony Computer Entertainment’s managing director, Ray MaGuire, a few questions.

For all of you that were heartbroken by the Final Fantasy XIII announcement, Ray has a view on the situation of exclusivity going forward in the industry.

RM: For publishers, increasingly, the only way forward is to have multiple platform strategies. What’s more important is the development cycle going forward. We have three platforms that vary in their technical ability. You can develop for the top-end, then dumb games down for the other titles. What we will see in those titles is exclusivity in terms of functionality.

These comments echo what Naughty Dog’s Richard Lemarchand had to say about Sony’s vision of expanding gaming culture and functionality in an interview with IGN. Additional functionality can affect the purchasing decision of a person that has more than one console. Though I currently only own Sony platforms, many of my multi-console owning friends have expressed the intention to by the PS3 version of games based on the eventual Home integration. Read more »

They make good games....Junk, they ain't

Junk...they ain't

Pixeljunk Eden will be released today by the very talented people from Q-games. The previous Pixeljunk Monsters game was an absolute favorite of mine. It had challenging levels with an amazingly simple concept. Who would have thought that dancing in front a defense tower would be so much fun ?

Where is My Gaming Girl?

I wonder if she plays video games.

Where is My Gaming Girl?

The decision to focus on the lifestyle aspects of Playstation and the individuals that own the console prompted an interesting conversation between myself and Sev1512. If you have spent any time on the forums, you’d know that I’ve been single for the past 5 years. Sev says that I am just married to work and school. I think he may be right. The truth of that statement does not change the fact that I am the only author on PSLS that is single. So….this caused me to think about the prospect of finding a girl that loves gaming, Playstation in particular, as much as I do. Here’s a checklist of some of the characteristics and interests that I hope she has: Read more »

New “Linger In Shadows” Details Emerge

Posted in PlayStation 3 with tags , on July 30, 2008 by sev1512
Written by Sev1512

We have new details about the mysterious game/interactive art.

How would you feel, staring deeply into the eyes of this....'thing'?

From the Official PlayStation UK Website:

A dreamlike, seemingly random sequence unfolds before your eyes; then it stops, spools back and starts again. Can you influence it? Can you alter or extend what you have already seen?

A collaboration of hypnotic art, subtle gameplay and invigorating music, there are no rules or traditions in Linger in Shadows. The laws of physics and time are irrelevant. This is not a game in the traditional sense, rather an abstract, interactive experience designed to challenge and captivate your inquisitive mind.

  • Discover the five hidden sigils and unlock the path forward
  • Take control of time and realise the full potential of each scene as it unravel
  • Watch, enjoy, experiment and let the experience wash over you

PlayStation LifeStyle Trivia - PlayStation/Sony Brand

Written by Sev1512

As a new part of our laid back, “LifeStyle” approach, we will be rolling out some new weekly, and bi-weekly features.

Today, I would like to introduce to you…

PlayStation LifeStyle Trivia!

This weeks trivia will be about the PlayStation/Sony Brand. Each week or so, we will be bringing you “themed” trivia.  So get on your thinking caps, and get ready for some tough (and not so tough) trivia.

Please email your answers to trivia@playstationlifestyle.net and please do NOT post answers in the comments section.  We want this to be fair and difficult for all of our readers.  Whoever emails the CORRECT answers first will get their name in lights (well bolded) on a separate post.

Oh, and if you happen to be a member of our forums you will get a special VIP status until the next trivia winner is announced.

Q1: Who was the founder and “father” of PlayStation? Read more »

Rumored New PLAYSTATION® Store (US) Content for 7/31/08

PlayStationLifeStyle.net Weekly PS Store Rumored Content

Hey everybody, you didn’t think that just because PlayStation LifeStyle is refocusing our content that we’d get rid of one of our most popular (and accurate) features, did ya?  As we’ve mentioned over the past few days, PlayStation LifeStyle will continue to BREAK news - just not LEAK news.  This info is ALWAYS backed up with sources and is never based on insider information.  Just some of our hard work and independent research.

With that said, this week is going to be pretty solid for everyone.  The highlight of the week is definitely the release of PixelJunk Eden with full YouTube uploading support and something else…I forgot.  Oh yeah, trophy support!  Sports fans should have two demos from EA, including Madden NFL 09 and their new boxing title - Facebreaker.  NASCAR 09 fans (both of you) may find some new DLC this week and we all might be surprised with some cool Soul Calibur IV DLC.  Mix in the ubiquitous Rock Band DLC and a gaggle of new themes, and we have a great Thursday for the PLAYSTATION® Store.

NOTE: We had expected Life with PlayStation to be released this week, based on Jack Tretton’s announcement at E3 and the new, ambiguous PS3 Firmware 2.42… but we haven’t received any more information from SCEA leading up to the release.

Check out all the details, based on my thread at the PlayStation.com Forums: Read more »

EA’s Biggest Source of Income is the PS3?

Electronic Arts

If you are surprised by this, then you’re not the only one. This information is straight from Eurogamer and the EA financial report. I have come across many “boycott EA” threads in my time and I am starting to think that these boycotts are nothing more than hate threads written by a poster, or they have done little to affect the PS3’s impact on EA’s income. PS3 Firmware Version 2.42 is Up

PLAYSTATION 3 Firmware Version 2.42

Looks like Sony pulled a fast one on us and has snuck in a quickie stability-related firmware update! Here’s what Eric Lempel had to say about Firmware 2.42:

Just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that a PS3 firmware update (v2.42) is now available for download. This update improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software.

Thanks to readers Manbearpig and canguy69 for the link and heads up, respectively.

Madden NFL 09 Demo arrives July 31

While doing my research into the weekly updates for the store (full post coming soon), I stumbled upon information that I personally was excited about and wanted to share.  After not getting a Madden demo last year, PS3 gamers will be happy this Thursday when they fire up the PS3 to find a demo of this year’s Madden available.

[Update: Apparently to cut down on the size of the demo, it will not include audio commentary.]

EA confirmed the news of the demo: Read more »

New Direction For PlayStation LifeStyle

Posted in Community, PlayStation 3 with tags , , , , , , , on July 29, 2008 by sev1512
Written by Sev1512

Hello to our loyal readers…

We are proud to announce our new direction for PlayStation LifeStyle. We will be focusing more on the “LifeStyle” aspect of our name. You can look forward to articles, thoughts, and opinions coming from lifelong gamers. We will cover how gaming plays a role in our everyday lives and how PlayStation has grown up along side us authors, along with many other subjects.

Instead of bringing you the same daily news as other sites, we will bring you our take on the day’s news and how it will affect the gaming industry, as well as your average PlayStation fan.

Another thing you will notice is that there will be no more “insider news”, less “rumors”, etc. Instead of working against developers/publishers, we will be working with them to bring you a inside look at the games they are producing. We apologize, since we know a lot of you first came here for our insider news. However, we will be focusing less on hits and more on quality journalism, as well as keeping PlayStation LifeStyle’s integrity intact throughout the gaming industry.

So this doesn’t mean we won’t BREAK news, we just won’t LEAK news.

We invite you to comment below and let us know what you think of our new plans for the site!
