only downside I see is when you get them DVDs with 3movies on them there going to have a field day with this one. Get your 100 plus movies on one disc for the price of a small island. Kinda cool though I bet hideo can’t wait for this 1 week cut seen on the disc. I would still watch it

AMAZING!

Just think, I was impressed with the MGS4 to hold 50 GIG but 400! that would mean MGS4 could have a trilogy movie set making the game even longer LOL.

According to the Japanese company: “Since the optical specifications of the objective lens…are the same as those for the existing BD discs, it is possible to maintain compatibility between the new 16-layer optical disc and the BD discs.”

So this means you can probably pop one of these big-boys into your newly purchased Blu-ray player and still access all the large space optical goodness when released.

Pioneer has promised more information on the new technology at the Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 2008, which sounds thrilling, on the 13 July.

Manbearpig, there is no way in hell the slow read speeds would EVER be able to replace an external HDD, unless they totally redesigned and increased the data throughput ability.

I’m thinking Music here, I have 13,000 songs +…

400 GBs will probably take at least 50,000, finally I can backup my music on 1 disc.
I have 3 250 GB back up hard dives for my Music, software & pictures… I need at least 3 of those to have multiple backus. WooooooW

Holy crap! That’s impressive, though not too surprising. I figured we see a 200Gb before this. Like Manbearpig says, though, I don’t think they;ll be used for games (not yet at least). Wow. I’m still impressed by this news. 400Gb.

I don’t see this being used for games, that’s just too much room to fill and would take up a lot of time to develop a game that would fill it. I could see it being used as an alternative to external hard drives, especially if they make a RW of this disk.
