Firmware 2.41 Is Available
As reported earlier today, the patch for FW 2.40 was likely to be released sometime this week. Well for everyone that missed out on the initial release, 2.41 is available for all to download. Go get it and enjoy in-game XMB and trophies in Super Stardust HD! Sony mentioned that the problem that caused the initial 2.40 firmware release to be taken down was the xmb disappearing after some individuals had updated their systems. Read on to see what Eric Lempel had to say.
Eric Lempel:
“Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.
We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!”
Thanks for the quick response & update Sony! We love the new platinum trophy icon!

Its a good thing but its still unfortunate becuase SSHD trophy patch was pulled so I cstill cant earn trophies. I hope this put this trophy patch back out to the public soon. I wanna earn me some trohpies!

LoTuz,
Trophy collecting is addictive. I’ve been considering getting Pain once trophies are released for it, just to increase my trophy count. Hopefully the SSHD update will be back up shortly.

Hmm, I noticed that there is a disclaimer in there with the firmware update this time that says:
“Do not turn off the system during the update. If you do, you may not be able to restart the PS3 system. Once the update is started you cannot go back to the previous version of the system software.”
Then beneath that, there’s a checkbox with the words next to it:
“Turn Off System Automatically After Update”
Then beneath THAT, there’s the “Start” button.
Interesting.

I’ve also noticed that the other options on in-game XMB fade out after a couple seconds. They come back up again after you move to a different selection, though.
I did notice however that the other names on your friends list don’t fade though.

@LinuxGuru
yea they added that in 2.41 along with trophy notification chimes (a chime plays when you earn a trophy now) and the platinum trophy was changed from a crown to a platinum colored trophy (why it wasn’t in the first place I don’t know)

@DevonTheDude & LinuxGuru,
Sweet finds on the small changes. PSLS authors, can we compile these and post about it - spread the word. I’m really impressed at how quickly Sony was able to turn this around to be honest. Nice they made other improvements at the same time.

The XMB fading and Trophy chime was there in 2.40.
However they may have turned up the volume of the chime.

another fast download, SONY must be putting more priority on the speed.
I’m Civilization Revolution today. Maybe that will have trophies?
I wish Lost Planet and COD4 had trophies.
