BREAKING: PSP Firmware 4.05 Adds Support for PLAYSTATION Store Movies and TV Video service [Update]
This is HUGE news. It seems Eric Lempel wasn’t giving you the FULL story when he mentioned that new effects have been added to the visual player for the PSP.
PlayStation LifeStyle exclusively brings you the following hidden information from PSP FW 4.05:
- Support for PLAYSTATION®Store Movies and TV video service.
- New effects have been added to the visual player under
(Music).
Even with the disappointing news for some today, I think Sony has some tricks up their sleeve for tomorrow!
[Update:] Sony has made the changes to their PSP firmware v4.05 support page here.

The Japanese update also included extra options for using that television plugin, such as being able to set a time to record, and being able to record without the psp outputting the video or sound.

Just in - There is a new PSN Downloader Version. Possibly have something to do with this?
July 14, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Wow, great news. I gotta run but please provide an update on the PSN Downloader! Mac Support? New content?
July 14, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Since there isn’t an actual interface to the PSN Downloader its tough to determine whats new. I’ll look through some files to see if I can spot anything.
As far as the Mac goes… not sure.

So how relevant is this for European players? Both Sony and MS have sort of given up on continental Europe when it comes to navigating video store regional rights, so any Video Store news are always restricted to US and UK audiences (and UK only sometimes).
It’s a pity, renting videos and having a way to legally purchase some TV shows was one of the selling points of the 360 to me, back in the day, and there STILL isn’t a video store in my region for Live.
July 15, 2008 at 12:48 pm
@Noel Veiga,
Firmware is global - so the framework is layed for Europeans to have the same features. I don’t know how this fits in with Go! View. Should be an interesting day…

Hopefully Sony can keep the momentum going for today.
July 15, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Sony have fallen on their ass so far - after losing the exclusivity of the FF franchise I think they need to have something MAJOR up their sleeves.
