PSN ID Linking FAQ

It appears as though that the official PlayStation forums (us.playstation.com) has started linking PSN ID’s to your forum user/login ID.

You can even view your PSN friends list on the forums.  This is an excellent way to kick off E3.

Lets hope they add trophy support as well as a “gamercard”

ID Linking FAQ

The free service from PlayStation® that allows you access to Online Gaming and the PLAYSTATION®Store. It also gives you a variety of ways to communicate with your friends.

  • What if I don’t have a PLAYSTATION®Network ID?

It’s not a problem; register your online ID today!

  • Do I have to have a PlayStation® Underground™ account in order to proceed?

Yes, you will need to have a PlayStation Underground account in order to access your PLAYSTATION®Network features on the Web.

  • What if I don’t have a PLAYSTATION®3?

It’s not a problem; however, certain features of the PLAYSTATION®Network require a PLAYSTATION 3—specifically, choosing an Avatar, managing your Friend List and editing your “About Me” message are PLAYSTATION 3 specific.

  • What is my online ID?

Your ID is your PLAYSTATION®Network name that you pick when you sign up.

It’s visible on your portable ID, on all PlayStation message boards (including any social networking sites where you post your portable ID), and on your buddies’ Friend Lists (where others have you listed as their friend). It’s your identity everywhere you go within the PlayStation online universe—and in some cases, outside that universe as well. Anyone who sees your portable ID or visits a website where you’ve used your online ID will know you by that name, which is why it’s imperative you pick a good one! Remember, once your ID is set, you can’t change it.

  • If I’ve signed up for the PLAYSTATION®Network on the Web, can other PLAYSTATION®Network members add me as a “friend” via their consoles?

Only accounts that have logged in on a PLAYSTATION 3 console can be added as a “friend” at this time.

  • What is my Online Status?

Online Status shows if you or a buddy are currently online (blue), online but away (yellow), offline (red) or pending friend status (gray).

If a user is online, their comment will be displayed (you can change your comment) on your PLAYSTATION 3 console:

    • Go to the “Friends” icon in XMB (XrossMediaBar)
    • Select your Avatar and press the triangle button on the controller

how do i view my friends list on my computer? i cant access anything

  8. Sporty Says:

Link wasn’t working for me either. But then I just went to the log in on the main site and a Link Account option was right next to me name afterwards.

Kinda sweet. Seems a bit flaky atm though. I was able to link accounts, saw PSN right next to my GAP button. But when I click on the PSN it always asks me to link accounts or log in with a linked acount to get html or anything. Clicking the link asks for my log on name/pass and then drops me back at the PID page asking to either link or log on.

Just a loop of that so far.

  9. whoelse Says:

This is very cool and a step in the right direction.

  10. whoelse Says:

I tried on Firefox and nothing happened but on IE i got this:

“There was an error trying to authenticate you.
    Please try again.”

    Does anyone else?

  11. The_Icon Says:

    Not working for me neither.

  12. Veks Says:

Has it be a US PSN ID, or can it be any PSN ID? Can you write me some State, Province and Postal Code? I´m from EU but i want this feature! Thank ya all.

  13. The_Icon Says:

Ok, the link was wrong thats why it was not working. After logging in to ur underground account, go to here : - http://www.us.playstation.com/Registration/PSNL

Nice idea.I need to remember my freaking password for the underground though.

  16. Phoenix8387 Says:

This is a very nice addition, I cannot wait to see what more they can do with this.

After linking your account, I suggest you log out then back in to your PSU account. This will often fix any problems you were encountering.

  17. Veks Says:

Somebody from EU, who has already this feature working with his PSN ID? Somebody pls write me some state, province, postal code. THX.

  18. neo_bahamut Says:

Great! Thanks for the heads up

  19. Real Says:

Veks: They did link the PSN ID in Europe a few months ago. You didn’t need anything special other than your actual PSN ID and password.

Did it even if I’m in N.A. and had no problems whatsoever. Not sure why it is so complicated with the N.A. forums. Though, in Europe, they didn’t link it with your friend list and so on…

  20. Veks Says:

Real: Thx for your answer. I have my PSN ID linked with EU forums, but as you´ve said, they didn´t link it with my friend list :-( And i really want this feature. Then…

Anybody with EU PSN ID, who has already linked it with US PSU?
