Versus XIII still PS3 exclusive

If you’re upset after hearing about the FFXIII announcement (or not if you’re an Xbox 360 owner), it may interest you to hear that Versus XIII will remain a PS3 exclusive still, according to Hashimoto from the Square Enix press conference Q&A session.

I would be slightly happy about this, it’s just that:

    1. This probably won’t be out for a bloody long time

    and

    2. I still have a FFXIII trailer on my PS3 harddive and at the end it said “Exclusive to Playstation 3″ and we all know what happend to that…..

  2. shoot77 Says:

    thats cool i guess

  3. Makidian Says:

I don’t buy into anything that SE says anymore, they’re a bunch of lying fools that thinks this will work.

However, FFXIII will be finished on the PS3 before they start development on the 360 version so that’s a plus to the whole thing, and it also stands to reason that’s why they shifted the devs of vXIII to XIII so they can get the PS3 version finished and out in Japan.

I also do not expect Star Ocean to be exclusive to the 360 any longer

Yeah the news sucks, and I was so mad I almost broke my laptop, but now that I am calm, it’s not as big of a deal that Xbots and other people will make it out to be.

And sev, add me if you have the room on your friends list

  4. neo_bahamut Says:

It’s exclusive for now; let’s see for how long it will remain exclusive

  5. superaktieboy Says:

not for long i tell ya

Third Party Exclusives are a thing of the past we just need to get used to that. Sony has a very strong first party and I think that will guarantee Sony’s eventual domination this generation.

  7. Meresin Says:

Just like FF XIII was going to remain an exclusive, right? *sighs sadly*

Third parties are now dead to me.

I don’t get why everyone is so mad about this sort of stuff. i don’t have a 360 but I wasn’t mad when Capcom announced it for the 360. My room mate can’t afford a PS3 he got his 360 for 250 dollars from a friend and it took him 6 months to be able to pay it off.

Also with all the costs for development on these new systems companies have 2 choices.

    1. Multiplatform

    2. Cut costs by cutting corners on development.

It won’t be another 2-4 years until the consoles have enough of an install base for them to be getting more and more exclusives. When a winner is shown that’s when exclusives will come around.

Games were exclusive for 360 cause costs were too high and the install base was too low. Now that the PS3 is catching up games like Bioshock are comming.

The 360 is still a competitor everywhere except in Japan so it stands to say that companies will want to profit and be able to turn some cash.

Tell me, are you willing to pay 10-20 extra dollars for the game to keep it a PS3 exclusive? Are you willing are you willing to sacrifice some gameplay and overall development costs in order for Square Enix to make it exclusive?

There are almost as many 360s in America as there are PS3s in every other country but Japan. Think about that. there’s a 6 million difference between Xbox 360 and PS3 owners. Even if every PS3 owner had a 360 there’s 6 million more people that they could reach with a port.

If you were in a business what would you choose? Is the cost of having it exclusive worth bragging rights? Is the excusivity really that big a deal? Anyone who buys it on 360 instead of PS3 will probably be stupid if they have both systems. PS3 multiplatform games have started to become better than the 360 counter parts. On top of that they get the game much later.

if this game was the only reason for you to get a PS3 then WAKE UP there’s a lot more to gaming than 1 freakin company. Go to a gamestop, go to an EB games. Look around… which section is the biggest? Which section still has new titles being released? Is it gamecube? Is it the Xbox? NO! It’s the PS2. Sony plans on this system being relevant for 10 years. Microsoft will throw it away as soon as it starts to out live it’s purpose.

Sony has staying power, Microsoft has a ton of money to throw around for the hell of it. Just calm down, think, relax, and look at the big picture rather than follow the American customs of “I WANT NOW!!! NO MATTER WHAT PLEASE ME AND GIVE ME NOW!!! WAHHHHH!!!!”

If you get stressed out about every little thing in gaming you’ll just be part of the depressing aspects. You really need to focus on the fact that you’re still playing games and that you still get to enjoy games. I’m not going to convince someone that the PS3 is better for them if the 360 clearly suits their needs better, and I’m going to push the PS3 on anyone that I think fits within that spectrum perfectly. I’m a Sony Fanboy but I speak not only with my heart, but my mind. A companies success is our success. We can’t think in small terms Sony is looking at the big picture, why aren’t you?

I was going to buy Final Fantasy XIII but now I won’t. It’s time to show Square Enix with whom their allegiance lies. They’ve sold themselves to the highest bidder like a common whore it’s time for their sales numbers to suck like one too.to the PS3 fans lets have our revenge WE WILL NOT BUY THIS GAME lets give this game to the XBOXers because in XBOX people could pirate the disc (Pirated Disc) in that way Square Enix will never have a big INCOME

Hmmm… this will remain PS3 exclusive?

What happened to the tagline… “For Playstation 3″

  12. M. Palmer Says:

Makai, very well put. I completely agree with everything that you said. I’m not exactly a Sony fanboy, there are many things XBox does that I wish were on PS3 as well. However, I do strongly believe that the PS3 is the superior total entertainment system. PS3’s processing power is essential infinite compared to XBox’s, and as such the games on PS3 can be on a much grander scale with finer detail, better graphics, longer gameplay, etc. Unfortunately, game developers haven’t figured out yet how to fully utilize the system’s capability. That brings me to my point…

By making a game multi-platform, developers are essentially dumbing-down the PS3 version of the game because they know they only have to make it good enough for XBox. It’s sort of like the “No child left behind” policy, but I won’t get into politics. If SE had kept FFXIII exclusive to PS3, then they could have (and should have) but forth R&D dollars to really delve into the world of PS3’s potential and make ground-breaking improvements for future game developers on the PS3 platform. Sony NEEDS to have exclusive game contracts so that developers can get used to programming for a machine that’s actually powerful enough to handle everything that gamers want. Otherwise it’s like playing FreeCell on a $2k PC.

  13. kenpachi Says:

there are 140 million playstation 2’s around the world, exclusives really dont matter for now because eventually the other 126 million playstation 2 owners who haven’t bought a playstation 3 will buy one within the next few years or maybe they will shift in 09. and microsoft won’t be able to compete with that kind of mass gathering. it may take a few years because there aren’t 126 million playstation 3 on the market at this time but it will eventually happen. and square will make ff14 exclusive again as will many other companies.

  14. Somerandomguy Says:

Hey dominicanair, That plan might work but, if us Ps3 owners do boycott FF13 and the xbots do buy the game. (PS3 Disc sold 0, vs 360 disc sold 869,132) SE may not make FF 14 for the ps3, What we should do is try to make the PS3 sales of FF13 a lot higher then the 360

  15. M. Palmer Says:

Unfortunately, if there’s a FFXIII sell-off between PS3 and XBox360, then SE will make a ton of money and realize that they should have had dual platform versions all along, and will NEVER get back to being PS-exclusive. The only thing that can be done about FFXIII not being PS-exclusive is to hope that SE has a change of heart (assuming they even have a heart anymore, and aren’t just $$$-whores) for future games, and makes the next installments exclusive.
