Update to Final Fantasy Info

We have an update to the information on the Final Fantasy info. If there will be a “new” PS3 version of Final Fantasy 7, it WILL NOT be a remake. There is likely to be a spin-off or a sequel to this popular game and exclusive to the PS3. I’m sorry if I got your hopes up about the FF7 remake
It is important to us to provide reliable inside info for example, on Trophies and firmware 2.40. Many of you have pointed out that Sony own the rights to Final Fantasy 7 so how could the original come to Xbox Live Arcade unless it was sub-licensed which Sony would unlikely do. Therefore we have to question the reliability of some of my insider’s information. Hopefully at the Sqaure Enix event or at the Tokyo Game Show, we will have more of an understanding on what Square Enix may have up their sleeves.

Dude,don’t even sweat it!Only fools will claim the information presented here is unreliable,they seem to have forgotten that this was indeed the first site to confirm the existence of Linger In Shadows(As a matter of fact,I believe it was Sev who made the post back then),first site to confirm In-Game XMB was coming,first site to confirm the PSN ID profile ‘Cards’ were real,etc.etc.
The irony of this whole thing is,some people still believe that Square are going to deliver Exclusive games for the PS3/PSN.Wait until Square hosts another Press Conference,unless Sony have reached some sort of agreement with Square,I can almost guarantee you this much;ALL Square Enix games will be Multi-platform:FF13,FF13-Versus,Kingdom Hearts,you name it.
Now don’t get upset with me,I’m just stating the truth lol

Square has 2 exclusives on the xbox 360 atm that i cannot see on the ps3 anytime soon!
Also thee FF news is very interesting and i dont think anybody ever accused you guys of posting unreliable info, seems dam reliable to me!

It’s just hard to get used to Square releasing games like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts on other platforms when they were once PlayStation only titles. But when they announce Kingdom Hearts 3, I will not be surprised when they announce it to be multiplatform.

Thus what is your basis that there will be an announcement then? If the insider is not reliable, then how can you be sure that the Square Enix announcement is “likely to be a spin-off or a sequel to this popular game and exclusive to the PS3″?

Personally, i prefer a sequel/prequel over a remake.
Imagine all the characters from FFVII-world in a new story in HIGH-DEF on the ps3. EPIC!!
I´m hoping for a sequel, maybe the years between FFVII and Advent Children? or a game that takes place AFTER Advent Children would be nice as well.

Because we have more than one insider.
We compile news that we get from all of our insiders, then we sort through it, then we research the info.
There have been many reports that there will be a spin off of some sort coming.

Hmm very interesting. At first i didn’t like the idea of a FF7 sequel considering Advent Children was just a bunch of cool fight scenes with little story and Dirge or Cerberus just plain sucked, but if the team gets together to create a brand new FF7 sequel and really pours their hearts into it I know it will be incredible. That being said I’d still like to see a remake on the ps3 ;).

If the rights to FF7 were owned by Sony (which they are not) then how was it published by Eidos for the PC?
Additionally, Square published it in Japan and Internationally. Sony published it in North America and in Europe.
The property is owned by Square.

They wouldn’t announce a remake if FF13 hasn’t been released yet, because the remake could potentially hurt FF13 sales.
A sequel to DoC, that’s been my guess for a while.

7hey guys dont worry about it. at least something in the FF7 universe is coming(hopefully). I can really say that you guys were totally wrong with this. So in my eyes your still 100/100 on the info you guys get. Keep up the Awesome work.

Publishing rights to can be sold off (it’s called sub-licensing).
So, chances are, this is what happened:
- Square is the ultimate rights holder
- Sony purchased the rights to distribute it on the PS in North America
- Eidos purchased the rights to distribute it on the PCs
So, it *IS* technically possible for Square to sell some rights to Microsoft, as long as it doesn’t infringe on the rights licensed to Sony, Eidos or any other parties that may have purchased rights from Square.
I hope that makes sense.

AS long as Materia and the entire world of FFVII is involved I’m there, and if they happen to just do a slight upgrade and smooth out the original and re-release it over PSN, I would gladly pay any amount of money they ask for

Yea that was pretty obvious. Square Enix has been rumor killing the FF VII remake for 3 years. They never once said anything about FF VII-2. Look how well Final Fantasy Advent Children was accepted. They could do a video game sequel to the movie!!

I don´t believe this stuff…he is SURE that it is NO remake but he doesn´t know exactly WHAT it is(spin-off, sequel)! How can he know that its not the remake when he doesn´t have any clue what kind of game it is????
Sounds a bit unreliable with no further exact informations…Does he have some other informations…? if not…i could have written this rumor by myself! Sorry guys

I´m also sure that there will be something at the SE-Party…but i doubt that the author have any clue what it is (remake, sequel, spin-off)! Me as well… So they made this “update” because everyone will be really angry when its not the remake(a lot of sides linked the news before)..two steps forward and one step back!!!!! Well okay, this is the only thing, what they did wrong - but I really believe, that they have these insider contacts and I also think, that it´s not easy to get this information. If it would be easy, nothing would be a surprise or a secret anymore.

If it doesnt arrive at the Square Enix event, then it could still at TGS. Theres no certainty its going to arrive August.

I’d love to see both a psn release of ps1 classic ffvii and a true sequel on ps3. i’d actually hate for remake of original bc it would either ruin the original if it changed too much or make the original look bad bc we’d understand how antiquated the game is if left alone. sev hasn’t really been wrong before so i’ll trust his rumors for something ffvii and some other exclusive. hey sev got a question for you…what have you heard about mass effect or its sequels coming to ps3?

Anyways, it will be interesting to hear Square’s big announcement on August 2nd. What if it is a letdown though?
I can just imagine. We will be porting FFVII to PSP. And, I mean more like a straight port. Then I can imagine the collective groans.

I dont understand why they dont just do the remake for PS3 - Square has been porting/remaking/updating every other Final Fantasy out there — Many to the DS, and a few to the PSP, And its not like you can go out and buy a copy of the game anymore. Its just not out there anymore unless you get it second hand, and if I think about it with all the remake/ports they have been doing the only ones you cannot get now are 7 8 and 9..
even if you find them from the “trader” dealers most of them have slapped a $90 or even $100 price tage on em.. But hey thats only my opinion I guess.
