While doing my research into the weekly updates for the store (full post coming soon), I stumbled upon information that I personally was excited about and wanted to share. After not getting a Madden demo last year, PS3 gamers will be happy this Thursday when they fire up the PS3 to find a demo of this year’s Madden available.
[Update: Apparently to cut down on the size of the demo, it will not include audio commentary.]
EA confirmed the news of the demo:
The Madden NFL 09 Demo showcases some of the new and exciting features in Madden NFL 09. The demo begins with the user being loaded into the all new Virtual Trainer to begin the Madden Test. The Madden Test is a Madden aptitude test of sorts, that is used to assess your Madden IQ, which drives the users custom difficulty and play settings. The Madden Test consists of 4 core game play mechanics: Passing, Rushing, Pass Defense, and Rush Defense. Gamers will be taken through the entirety of the Madden test and then given their final Madden IQ.
Once the Madden Test is completed and with the your Madden IQ decided, gamers are then brought into yet another all new feature, Madden Moments. Madden Moments allows for users to replay a team’s key moment from the 2007 season. Upon entry into this mode, you’ll see a brief overview of the moment, which is the Giants final Super Bowl-winning drive. With about 2 minutes to go, you will take over the reins of Eli and the Giants and begin their march to victory. Once the moment has been completed, users will be allowed to restart the moment as many times as they want.
The demo will be available for free download on August 1st on Xbox Live and PSN.
Note that August 1 mentioned above is Friday, but the demo will be arriving on Thursday, July 31 along with the other scheduled PSN store updates.

YES!!!! Lol. Please let it be better than last year. I buy NCAA and Madden every year, it is my one downfall. From what I have seen so far it looks a lot better.

Good! If it is really improved as much as I have heard (such as they have used twhat they did with FIFA 08, improving player movement and foot ’slippage’), this might actually help them get some gamers back that have not bought it recently or were not planning on it this year.
My thoughts on EA and Madden:
If they are going to pay for the exclusive licenses, then still produce a product as if there is competition. The last few years they have gotten very lax on trying to produce a great game, imo, because there is not much motivation to do so. Eventually, some people will stop buying it, even if it is the only NFL game on the market.
So, I hope they stepped up their game this year. ‘07 and ‘08 were the worst and second worst, respectively, Maddens Ive played since I started in ‘96 (relative to the technology for the time period).

And as always, thanks for the weekly info SS.

No problem. As a tempting tidbit, you’ll also hear about (up to) 4 demos, 1 game (PJE), NASCAR 09 DLC (listen to the EA podcast), DLC for all your favorite music games, and maybe even some other stuff.
Don’t you guys worry – PSLS hasn’t changed THAT much.

@Update
Damn, I was looking forward to hearing it. I think that having fresh faces (voices I guess) will also help the game. I hated what they did with the commentary the last couple years, and John and Al were wearing out their welcome before that.
Oh well, I guess Ill just have to wait for the full game.

I can live without the audio. I hope that this title can convince me to love Madden again

Yeah I’m curious what this year’s PS3-centric development will bring. EA demos have continued to disappoint me with their presentation. So hopefully we’ll see more here. They have a lot of PS3 fans hanging on the line waiting for the right year to buy it.

LAME! I’ll make them lose. At least I can have the Patriots win the Super Bowl someway….*sigh*

I have a question, Brett Favre is coming back next season and he will be traded apparently to another team, so will the cover change if he is on another team. It would be very odd if he is wearing a packers jersey on the cover, and also not be on the “other” team w/in the game (since EA has shown game play footage of him playing QB over Arron Rodgers).

@Manbearpig
…HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Sorry, that was inappropriate.
@DevonTheDude
I highly doubt if he switches teams that EA will change the cover to reflect that. I also heard that he is a free agent in the game. Not sure if thats true or not.

k this is not absolute known info and is pretty much leaked information?
i thought PSLS was no longer going to do this…?
as the playstation blog team always says if its not from them dont believe it.
So y are you guys stopping giving insider information, you were one of the best at it. and thats what PS fan websites are supposed to do. just because u give info out to the public before sony actually says anything is not bad it makes everything fun and mysterious.
This whole change BS is pointless. your just a reinforcement to the playstation blog! there is no point in even really comming here anymore.
Change is not the better thing to do in this situation… unless it is because “Whoelse” is leaving and he was the key to your insider info. but if that is not the case. DONT CHANGE! it doesnt make any since.

@mike,
Wrong. You don’t see a rumor tag here. We are breaking the news – that’s why it’s not “known” info to you. I confirmed it with EA.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:52 PM
[...] else… I forgot. Oh yeah, trophy support! Sports fans should have two demos from EA, including Madden NFL 09 and their new boxing title - Facebreaker. NASCAR 09 fans (both of you) may find some new DLC [...]

on the brett favre topic, i think they should just have roster updates online, like nba live 08
August 2nd, 2008 at 7:38 PM
madden is a joke. its the same thing every year and what makes it even worse this year is that it has brett favre on it. Its just another thing with his name on it. I found a website that offers preseason fantasy football. its at http://www.youbeqb.com and they have some really cool fantasy games that challenge all levels of fantasy players
