PLAYSTATION 3 Firmware Version 2.42

Looks like Sony pulled a fast one on us and has snuck in a quickie stability-related firmware update! Here’s what Eric Lempel had to say about Firmware 2.42:

Just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that a PS3 firmware update (v2.42) is now available for download. This update improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software.

    Maybe CoD4 bluetooth mic issues since that is what a lot of crying is about now…

    And prep the PS3 for Life with Playstation probably need more ports opened for that little global information scheme…(Google Earth with news and weather)

    CoD4 mic issues? Sure you don’t mean BF:BC? Now that GAME has issues!
    I’m sure it’s a nothing update but, it sure is taking forever!

    what about life with PS?? i dont see it coming this month :(

    Relax, bro….there’s 31 days in July, and that makes Thursday the most likely day for the Life with PlayStation release, along with the normal PS Store weekly update.

    i know..sorry. Its just that when i saw the 2.42 update i was just 100% sure that Life with PS was there..anyways it might come thursday just like you said. Hope you re right!

    Wouldn’t be suprised if this has another of our well doccumented hidden features in it… namely Life with PlayStation. Simply needs a serverside switch turned on like the Home icon and the Video Store.

    Lets not forget, PSP received a small incremental update (atleast thought of), in reality, PSLF broke the lids and it was actually for Video support. So… yeah Life support..could be.

    People are also reporting that trophies are loading faster in-game, and out of game. Also, the XMB is also faster. I haven’t been on my PS3 yet to check this but a lot of people are saying it so it might be true.

    @ Phoenix8387, that is very true. Its one of those things that would be used by people who don’t visit the PS Store.

    OK guys,
    I don’t think Life With PlayStation is coming this week. You’ll see my upcoming content for Thursday post. I’m not going to include it in there for now. Though this firmware might be loading information for it – there’s sure to be some more promotion around it.

    evry time i try to download the ps3 update 2.42 it does some of the download but then stopps and says there is something rong with myinternet connection when it is perfectly fine can someone please tell me wat u a

    I can’t play any blu-ray disks after downloading 2.42 and am wondering if anyone else has reported this problem?
