Is the sequel coming in 2009? Or will it be something new?
In the August issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine, Shuhei Yoshida, the new President of SCE Worldwide Studios was interviewed and discusses Fumito Ueda and Team ICO. Talking about Shadow, he says:
“It took four years and the second game took four years too. So I started calling them the ‘Olympic Team.’ They haven’t released a PS3 title yet – of course not – they’ll take four years! But they have something really, really good on the way.”
Really, really good eh? Seeing as everything they have released so far was in fact really, really good, I tend to believe them.
If we follow the 4 year cycle…
ICO in 2001, Shadow of the Colossus 2005, it looks like we will be seeing a new Team ICO game in 2009.
Hopefully at least a trailer is debuted at Tokyo Game Show.

Team Ico, I believe in you. lol

Team ICO’s next game is definitely one of the things I’m looking forward to the most on PS3.
Though, why mention the possibility of it being SotC2? I thought they’d stated over and over again that they won’t be doing sequels to their games as it limits the possibilities; instead doing something very different each time?
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:03 PM
Why SotC2?
Because the original game was epic. But your right, it probably wont be a sequel.

THIS IS THE GREATEST GAME EVAR,THE ONLY GAME THAT CAN DETHRONE SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS

Fumito ueda is a genius in my opinion.I dont respect kojima because he makes war games that teaches only to kill. But no one can match the creativity of FUMITO UEDA.sorry Kojima.

Final Fantasy,Halo,God of war,GTA….are games to make huge sells but without an spirit. In a game the gameplay hours the sells, the quantity dont count…the experience of an game really counts.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:43 PM
sev1512 probably it wont an sequel it will be something new that no one of us can imagine yet.
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:47 PM
Despite how much I enjoyed SotC, I’m glad you haven’t come into any info suggesting the new game could be a sequel. The team doesn’t seem to know how to do a bad game, so I’m hoping for something that really utilizes the PS3 hardware and forces everyone to acknowledge it as next-gen. Other than graphics and slightly more advanced gameplay, nothing has really seemed completely impossible on the last generation of consoles.
Though, I’m somewhat confused. Since Team ICO are obviously doing this new game and may take a similar development time as previously, does this suggest that the other mystery PS3 game is simply the project they plan on starting once the third game is finished?

“I dont respect kojima because he makes war games that teaches only to kill.”
Wow. Most ignorant comment ever. And guess what? You can’t get very far in SotC if you won’t kill the first Colossi.

TGS? This should be shown at GC never mind Sony’s apparent (retarded) plans of US stuff @ E3, EU @ GC and Japan stuff @ TGS. IT’S BEEN FAR TOO DAMN LONG TO GO WITHOUT HEARING ANYTHING.
The ONLY way making us wait until TGS would be acceptable would be if there was a set release date for 3 – 6 months later. You know, like when Team Siren announced Siren Blood Curse in April and it was out in July.
If this isn’t shown @ GC, much as I respect Ueda, I’ll be getting this game, and all Sony published games from then on, second-hand as a FU to Sony for treating their loyal customers like **** for the UMPTEENTH ******* OCCASION. Since Sony like saying FU to the rest of us, turnabout is fair play.

Mark you are the ignorant its a big difference to kill an colossi or an human. The colossi were immortal you ignorant. This is my opinion you ignorant.
Moderator: You do remain ignorant of the fact that Kojima-san makes games with intricate stories and believable characters. He absolutely does not teach how to kill. Where do you get your information? When you say things like this, you aren’t entitled to an opinion around here.

Mark I dont respect him, Kojima is not my father.
Moderator: Someone doesn’t have to be your father to be entitled to respect from you

Ooh, if this is true, i’m stoked!
Also, do you guys reckon that all the announcements from the squeenix thing have been done? or are you still holding out hope for ff7?
August 2nd, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Kojima’s games are not messaged about killing
If you really played the games, you would see that they are messages of passing on genes and stopping machine warheads
I remenber when i fought against the Sorrow, He made all the enemies i killed including the BOSSES show up as ghost to torment me. That really made me feel bad about everyone i killed. A game teaching to kill? dude it taught that taking someones life away is no joke.

Great news if true. What ever it is it should be great. Also good job Sev1512 on what you do and every one else that works here. Also I am sorry you had to deal with a person like Art Dream. All you did was post your own thought and you have a right to say what you want to say. So Art to act the way He did was real wrong and it was good to see you stand up to him. Again I want to say great work and this is a great. So thanks for these posts.

The way I look at it though:
PS3 came late 2006 so let’s say Sony gave them the tools in 2006; 2006 + 4 = 2010 but then making a game for PS3 hardware is tough plus they’ll probably want to fill the Blu-Ray with stuff (so it’ll be a huge game that’ll needs lots of polish) so another year for those hurdles to be jumped gets us to 2011.

I feel like the only person on this site that has never played an ICO game. O_o So many games…. so little time…

Sorry for the double post I’ve been reading some more of the comments above me and I just really have to say something important…
Games do not teach you to kill. Games do not teach you to be a merciless killing machine. There is a very real difference between shooting off of screen and reloading in real life. There is a very different feel between a gun that doesn’t move and a gun that has recoil due to gunpowder. On screens when people die you hear a scream and see their body fall. In a game when someone dies you see their face in fear, their blood spill on the ground, people panic, you can smell the gun powder, you can even see their face after you leave the area.
It takes a normal person to play a game where you kill someone. People used to do it 80+ years ago. It was called Cowboys and Indians where kids used guns with bottle caps that had smoke and a loud bang. They would take BB guns and shoot stuff in order to improve their aim. While a normal person can pretend to shoot people, it takes an abnormal person to be able to do it easily. These are people that would have been affected by anything. They are affected by the media, my t.v. shows, movies, books, music, games, plays, or anything else.
Murder didn’t start when video games featured shooting, as no one really complained about it back when the light gun was released for the NES. It did not increase when games started to have more and more violence. What caused crimes to go up as they have, are when the parents stopped loving, caring for, and treating their kids with respect (or in some cases when parents stopped beating their children for obedience) The face of parenting has changed drastically and that’s caused terrible problems within the children’s behaviors.
There are many people who instead of going out and starting fights and commiting crimes they go home and play games to forget about their ills and to relax. Right now there are prisons who use GTA games as a reward. When criminals are on their best behavior they are rewarded by GTA gameplay. When you analyze what happened to the criminal’s behavior in prison, most of the prisons saw major drops in behavioral problems of the inmates.
In other words, anything can be productive if used in a productive way with an individual more likely to be productive. Things like videos and games can be destructive in much more rare circumstances where anything could have triggered the violence. Sick people will do sick things. Don’t blame it on an inanimate object.

Nah it dont matter when ps3 released Team Heavenly sword at example made the game in 4 years! and it come 2007.So i would think team ICO had 2005 already a ps3 prototype so they could already produce the game like any others, too. I thinkt 2010 is the latest year for releasing SotC2

August 3rd, 2008 at 10:12 AM
I must freaking laugh,Ive waited 3 years 2005-2008 for this announcment, but why they dont show any screens or trailers?
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:15 AM
im worried that this game could flop.Because look at free radical their gams was good on the ps2 but haze flopped.Look at factor 5 they made good games last gen and lair flopped.
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:30 AM
There’s a big difference between Team Ico and Free Radical/Factor 5. The latter made some great games, but Team Ico made masterpieces. A better comparison would be lets say MGS 4 had turned out to be a flop. Besides, Lair wasn’t that bad once they added analog controls.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:40 PM
ok you are right ryan but SotC was really short.I hope that their third game is longer.
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:45 PM
I sworn when I saw linger in shadows I thought:OMG thats team Ico,but after I was watching the trailer it was SONY Santa Monica Studios.
