Hardware 2 Screen Situation
As many of you know, our site announced an upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive, Hardware 2. Initial information about this upcoming Incognito title was given as well. This was accompanied by the decision to hold off on showing screens until August 3rd.
Today is August 3rd and I’m sure a great many of you are looking for those screens. Those of you that frequent the site will know that we have undergone a change of policy and focus. We are no longer a site that specializes in insider information. This change was not done to spite the readers or to placate developers. This decision was made for the good of the industry. The industry is currently very secretive because of the intense competition between the 3 console manufacturers. Releasing inside information can have a devastating effect on a company because its competitors are better able to counteract any new features, games, or pricing changes based on the information. Our site does not want to be responsible for this type of occurrence.
We here at PSLS are sorry to disappoint all of you. We hope that you understand that once we receive permission to do so, we will release all screens that we have in our possession. We are still waiting for a response from the previous listed developers, as well as SCEE on the subject. Thank you for visiting us. We appreciate each and every one of you.

Fair enough guys, it means that you retain the trust of the publisher, maybe securing an exclusive somewhere alone the line.

shut up? they obviously don’t want to step on the toes of the people who gave them the info. The industry is competetive, and if this game shows it’s “hand” too early on, it could harm potential sales - competitors like to copy, not innovate. innovation costs money.

Something that everyone needs to know is that no one on this site is paid for what they do. This is done out of love for the industry. The number of hits that we get does not impact us financially. We do enjoy having everyone come by and participate in discussion and reporting on PlayStation news.

Ouch! I wouldn’t have worried about what happens to the PS3 cause of your leak. Leaks happen all the time. Because of this, you have lost alot of respect and trust for your site. I highly doubt you will recover from this.

I can understand why you would feel the way you do about the decision. It was not an easy one to make. However, the long term implications of releasing things without permission is far more damaging to the industry as a whole and not just our site. Our new direction is not based on releasing inside information. We will be working with publishers on any new information that is released via our site.

I don’t mind you guys holding out on the screen shots. I actually like the direction this site is going, and wish you guys the best. I am looking forward to when you actually switch servers, or domain so the site become easier to access.

Totally understands the reasons for this, and if it helps PS3 developers, then it helps us that are playing the game to. You guys have my support, and I’m loving the new direction this site has decided to go with.

For everyone stating that the damage is already done, this is in part true. However, going any further with the process as of this time would not help the situation whatsoever.
Also, the FF VII info has been addressed. There was a post made following that this was not information that could be substantiated and that it was not meant to be posted. The poster of the story apologized and said to look out for possible information at the upcoming events.

I can’t say it was that big of a surprise. After I saw that they were changing directions I figured that it was now a 50 - 50 chance. I know that they’re worried about damaging their reputation, but at the same time that same passion is what leads them to make decisions like this. We’ll learn about the game more or less eventually. Does it really matter if we have new information about a game that isn’t even fully named yet? About a game we won’t see for a another year or 2? Will it really help us out if Microsoft attempts to get a developer to make a game half as good as this one but claims it better and a fanboy fight breaks out because of it?
I do want to correct one thing though. Someone said companies don’t make money off of innovation… Well what was the Wii? What was RE4? What was Animal Crossing? Ratchet and Clank? Fallout 3? Little Big Planet? Katamari Damacy? Pixel Junk Eden? Flow? Patapon? Rock Band? Most of those titles were treading new water in many senses wether it’s games with no goals, rolling stuff up, or being the most definative 3rd person shooter for a while. One more final example, how many games do you know that specialize in all sorts of combat from airplane, vehicle, and ground combat, without having a SHRED of artificial intelligence for bots or any sort of single player campaign. Cause Warhawk did it and I’d say that is pretty innovative as well.

I personally think it’s best to show the gamers what is in store for them before it’s already in store. Maybe their opinions could alter and better the game.

Not dissapointed in the fact that we wont be able to watch the screen-shots.
I am however dissapointed that in typical below average journalism this so called “Major exclusive”" ground breaking, KZ2 and whatever else is coming to the PS3 killer” was all just a bunch of hype and BS when the game is in fact is a sequel to a game that nobody cared about, very few even heard of.

congratulations sev! And guys, sooner or later you will see the screenshots of this game, whether you see them now or in a couple of months there is no difference, the game will come out on the same day and releasing the screens now would just improve the possibilities of competition getting the upper hand. then it would be some of you saying oh flop this game came out later, looks worse and plays worse. So just respect the decisions of PSLS, and for bigpete’s sake, leave my man Sev alone its the baby shower for his first child. If you say they lose your respect just because of some screen you were gonna probably look at for 30 seconds, then you probably didnt have that much respect for them anyway.

you dont seem to understand, its not as if this PSLS were to release the only screenshots ever to come of the game before it is released. Obviously months before release screens and videos will come out. But the decision PSLS had was to ‘leak’ these pictures which is a totally different thing.

I totally know were you are coming from. I would have loved just one picture just to know that this whole thing was not fake. But I believe you know what you know and what to stay on the inside with the devs. So good job. As much as you want to keep the fans who vistit this site happy you still want to stay on the good side with the devs. May be some day if you are lucky you could post some thing that was not known before devs show it.
With the bessing from the devs. Not that long ago another insider person named Gamesblow had some info and the same thing happened to him and I have no reason to think what He said was fake. He knows more then me or other people that like gaming. So just because you never sign an NDA does not make it ok to talk about it. You may think seeing as you never signed and NDA that it might be ok but to the devs it is not.
So again I know what you are talking about and I do appreciate what you guys have been doing with this site. So good luck with this site. I was not the happiest with the news of Hardware Online Arena 2. Seeing as it was not a game I would ever think is fun. But I appreciate what you said about it.

So PSLS sided with the industry then the viewers that support the site, what a damn shame. If you guys were so worried about the impact that a announced title would have on SONY, then why bother revealing the title and information? You should of just released the screen shots and let the viewers speculate on the title of the game.

Our decision was made in order for us to be able to bring you more information directly from developers and publishers. It was not meant to be a side choosing type of decision. We love our readers and enjoy interacting with them. It is one of my favorite things to do.
As far as Sev’s statement about not visiting the site, that was meant to mean that individuals that do not want to come by and enjoy the site, don’t have to come by. We will continue to bring you information and post personalized stories about our gaming lives. Please feel free to continue visiting the site and being a part of the community. If you feel that not being able to see early screens of a upcoming title is worth leaving the community, I won’t fault you. We will continue to bring you Playstation news the PSLS way

When you guys first revealed Hardware 2, you should of sat down and brain stormed about the potential repercussions that an unannounced title would have on SONY and the developers. Afterlife also stated that screen shots would be revealed in the days to come. Sev then made it worse by commenting on N4G, i recall it was after PSLS decided on a “new direction” for the site, he asked the members to vote on the subject of release, or withhold, 200 accepts later no word on the matter until today. Mixed messages was made, a lot of people marked their calenders for this day.. its a big let down. Whatever you guys do, best of luck..
SEV if your reading this i recommend you stop posting on N4G, you knew about the change in direction for this site, yet you still asked the members for a vote on the issue.

I’ll be the first to admit that I am new to the PR/business side of this industry. Basically, the more that I’ve done since the start first started 4 months ago, I have come to realize that there are certain things that you really don’t find out until the situation arises. This situation arose and we have had to deal with it accordingly.
I can understand your feelings about the question that was posed on the N4G. Just know that as soon as we are able to release any information/screens we will.
I will again state that we value all of our readers and our sorry that we are unable to show you the early screens of the game.

Sev, I’d like to congratulate you on the site, you have done wonders to it with some great content and I really hope that the site will still keep going for as long as possible so good luck with that.
That said, you knew the shit would absoutely blow up if you dont post the screens in the end. All we have is your word that the game actually exists. You cant even release one lousy screen to at least confirm that you do have said screens.
I really do wish PSLS the best I really do…but in all honesty, your rep and creditablty went down a notch today sadly.

This is BS. I mean I don’t care one way or another if I get to see some early screen shots, but it really does sound like it was made up for hits. If we don’t agree with you, you’ll delete our comments. I understand that you may want to protect the innovation of the game, but you’re showing screen shots…How much innovation can be stolen from screen shots? And why do you have to screen comments? I really don’t know what some people expect, since I have never played the original Hardware(was that what it was called?), I could care less. Leipzig is in a couple weeks they will probably show it there as one the games they have been pre-hyping for the show.

ads in the forum part aint there? anyways that isnt the issue,
my biggest complaint regarding this site is, wholsie or whatever hes called, specifically said that 2.4 would include (100% guarenteed by him) voice chat while playing any game. his insider told him this etc etc etc
atm the only thing i my xbox is mainly used for voice chat, (cheaper than phones), voice chat while playing ps3 games, i use my xbox. then when i was told by this site voice chat would be in 2.4, and released on the 10th of june.
i didnt see much use in my xbox, and almost got rid.
reading back through the moutnain of blogs on this site, i think 80% of that wholesie guys post were completely made up, seems strange such a retard would post such things, but turns out he doesnt post blogs here no more, but his tradition has continued on?
