Strong Sales Might Have Piqued Valve’s Interest
Maybe for PS3. One day
Gabe Newell hates the PS3. That is not news to anyone. What may be news is what Doug Lombardi has recently revealed. Many have called 2008 the year of the PS3. So far, that billing has been true. Strong sales and great titles (especially MGS 4) abound. Valve says that the strong sales have caused the developer to take notice.
“We’re always evaluating what’s happening in the marketplace and certainly something that’s happening in the last couple of months is that Sony’s managed to sell some boxes,” said Lombardi.
“So whether or not you like developing for that platform, if they’ve got millions of people connected to that platform and buying their games you have to take it seriously.”
Lombardi went as far as to say there is a “50-50″ chance that Left 4 Dead will be making an appearance on the PlayStation 3. If the sales trends continue, I have little doubt that “50-50″ will become 100%. (I hope).

That’s a 50% better chance than we had last time anyone from Valve spoke about PS3 development. It’s also a 50% I’m glad to have.
screw Valve! Sony doesn’t need ‘em. “sold a few boxes.”. ha ha. how drol. you’ll certainly won’t see me on my knees, begging for them to toss a few games our way ’cause “the sales might justify all the hard work”. (that they’ll probably make EA do.) if Valve doesn’t like the PS3, then they shouldn’t work with it. if they feel sales will be strong enough to warrant learning the architecture, then that’s wonderful. get out of here with that 50/50 bull. we have plenty other games to be exited about. call me a fanboy if you want, but it’s not even about that. i’m just really sick of Valve’s attitude in general. now that i’ve got that out of my system, i feel much better. thanks.
I love Valve games but they are being dumb fucks about the PS3.

Anyways, at last Valve acknowledges the PS3.
I would love to see this title come to PS3, even if it does mean that Valve is a sellout.
Valve come on if they wanna be elite in development they have to step up like Infinity Ward, Criterion, Rockstar North. Stop complaining about development issues.
I can’t believe anyone is really happy about this. This is why George Lucas can continue to make crap, and people eat it up. After the incredibly buggy “Orange Box” and the crappy comments about PS3, Valve sees a chance to make money, and everyone is going to welcome them with open arms? I won’t be buying anything from this company, no matter what it is.
Valve has really lousy engineers.

I refuse to buy any PS3 title that has Gabe Newell’s name attached to it. After this announcement, I’ll still continue my boycott. F’ Gabe!
I really want to see L4D come out for ps3 but if valve has that attitude i’m not going to buy anything made by his company…some of the things he has said about ps3 are euphonious….I mean seriously cry like a little girl about how ps3 games are two hard to develop, grow up…
