TedTheDog revealed a few tidbits regarding PlayStation Home’s voice chat features. At the moment, voice chat has been disabled for all public areas and is only available in user-owned areas.

We’re certainly looking at ways of bringing voice chat back in public spaces in the future. We’d like to consider ways of achieving a balance between having a useful social tool and a means of annoying other people.

We have several features coming along this year that may very well tie in nicely with voice chat but until they arrive I believe voice chat will stay as it is.

Update: Locust_Star confirms this.

  1. When will they add more fun MMO games… imagine a big game of tag always going on. Only one person is “IT”
Really doesn’t seem hard to implement and would make sense in home. It doesn’t need to be a HUGE feature. Just get everyone involved in new ways.

    ^Great idea.
I think that’s what we hope HOME will be like at some time in the feature.

But at the moment, in it’s current state, I really couldn’t care less about HOME unfrotunatly.

If it doesn’t improve drastically it will feature in Tech magazines from now on under the “Biggest disappointments” title.

  3. There is a lot in the works for Home. More spaces coming soon.
