The Killzone 2 demo sparked a great deal of debate about the supposed lag that some players were experiencing. Some blamed their displays and others blamed GG. It was eventually realized that the slower pace of the game was intentional. However, the complaints of lag did not fall on deaf ears. There was a full investigation done. I am happy to report that the controls will remain unchanged. You will be happy to hear that the multiplayer does play quicker and allow you to react as need be (As need be = dying in a shower of bullets from yours truly).

“After carefully looking into this, reading the posts, talking to a lot of you directly and analysing the controls at GG we have come to the conclusion that there are no changes required to the system.

“If at all, any changes to the controls would put the majority of people who have not had problems or have adapted out of whack, which may be more serious.”

Whether the ‘problem’ was exclusive to the demo, or was rejected altogether we’re unsure, but this following comment might shed more light on the issue:

“Killzone 2 is a weighty, slower, more tactical first person experience that focuses on immersion. It is not a twitchy, split-second gun-wielding experience like some shooters.”

Some are worried that the weightier controls will negatively impact the multiplayer experience; however, GG have made sure to adjust the controls and animations to suit this experience:

“Also, the online experience is quicker as we’ve made the controls and animations a little faster during design.”

cool good to hear. I know if you adjust the sensitivity just right you’ll find it plays just like every other shooter :)

  2. sickr says:

I’m still not convinced the cover system has been implemented as well as it could have been (simply look to Gears of War) but nonetheless I guess I’ll use standard controls for single player and then alternate 2 for multi.

  3. masteratt says:

Gears is a 3rd person shooter….Some comparisons people make are astounding.
As far as 1st person shooter games go, KZ2 is the first to implement a proper cover system and I think it works superb.

My only complaint is a very minor one, and that is, you are at nipple level view wise lol…..It’s a bit weird :/

I haven’t got a clue why everyone is moaning about the controls to be honest, I thought it felt as normal as any other shooter.
Oh wait I DO have a clue; people love moaning on the internet.

  4. Trexman says:

    lag where? the shooting?

  5. snow0937 says:

i wish da aiming was like cod4

  6. Omni 4P says:

    @Snow

CoD4 is not the kind of game I want KZ2 to be and I am glad it’s not. While I love Call of Duty, Modern Warfare was a debacle of an FPS, there was no skill gap and catered to newer players too much. Good game for many but for this gamer it was a travesty…

  7. Soulsamurai says:

I was in the beta and the multiplayer imo was perfect. I really really hope it hasn’t changed since the beta…

  8. NNNW says:

what i dont understand is why the revolver handles like the bazooka..

  9. snow0937 – controller preset “alternate 2″ is almost exactly like COD4.

NNNW – The revolver is a big and heavy weapon that has a huge amount of power and kick.

sickr – leave the convincing to be done by actual retail copy gameplay.

I do have to admit the scale is off. You come up to about chest level on everyone. What is Sev, a midget? Oh well, that doesn’t bother me at all to be honest lol.

I could not figure out why everyone got so worked up about the controls!
Set the sensitivity to max, and change to Alternate 2, and you’ve basically got Resistance 2 controller settings. :P

Was I one of the minority that was actually able to adapt like any normal human being? Playing the beta, it only took me one or two matches to adapt, and then the singleplayer demo didn’t feel that much different.

Glad to hear they’re keeping it as it is. As they said, it shouldn’t be a twitchy shooting game, it’s more tactical, realistic and makes you feel like you’re actually the soldier. How many of you can spin 180 degrees, holding a large assualt rifle, AND fire it at pin-point accuracy? Not many of you. Which is why Killzone 2 is like it is.

And that’s the way it should be.

I’m assuming since some people don’t see the lag and others talk about sensitivity settings, not everyone is experiencing the same thing. My problem with the game has nothing to do with how quick the weapon moves once it STARTS moving. My problem is the LAG between movement of the controller and the response in the game. I feel like I’m operating one of those old stuffed animal cranes where you move the joystick and a second later the crane starts moving, then you release the joystick and the crane continues moving for another second. By the way, it is not my TV either. I have changed to game mode and tried another TV. I have messed around with TV settings and system settings for hours this morning trying to see how people (including my friends online last night) are not seeing this lag that is so obvious to me. I give up. Unfortunately Game Stop won’t take the game back so it’s going on Ebay or Craig’s List. I would say don’t waste your money on this game but some people don’t see the lag so take a chance if you want. There are some videos on Youtube showing the lag. The lag I see on my game even seems worse than those.

My issue is feeling physically sick when my guy is moving around…trying to emulate real running with the screen bouncing all the time. Can only play for like 45 minutes without feeling sick. COD4 and 5 I can play for hours upon hours at a time.
