SCEA announced its planned 2009 line-up which is full of blockbuster titles…
Via an official SCEA Press Release:
Building on Sony Computer Entertainment America’s (SCEA) record year of sales in 2008 and the industry’s strongest software line-up to date, which included the breakout hits Metal Gear Solid ®4: Guns of the Patriots, Resistance 2™ and the genre-defying LittleBigPlanet™, PlayStation® is staged yet again to deliver another year of unmatched software content.
Kicking off the new line up, Killzone®2 is set to launch on February 27, 2009 and promises to be the industry’s first major gaming hit for 2009 as well as a key driver for PlayStation®3 (PS3™) hardware sales. Killzone 2 is thethird installment of the popular PlayStation-exclusive franchise, and the first of the series to appear on PS3. Delivering a truly immersive experience only possible through PS3’s Blu-ray gaming potential, Killzone 2 is already generating wide-spread critical acclaim, earning an impressive Metacritic score of 92.
The game ushers in an unprecedented year of titles to hit the PlayStation platform throughout the year including the blockbuster exclusives Uncharted 2: Among Thieves™, inFamous, MAG™, Heavy Rain, God of War® III and MLB® 09 The Show™.
In anticipation of the Killzone 2 release, SCEA will also be launching a new television ad campaign this week in collaboration with Killzone 2 developer Guerrilla Games, Los Angeles based Zoic Studios and ad agency Deutsch LA. Coined the “Bullet” commercial, the new ad was rendered entirely in-engine via the incredible power of the Killzone 2 engine and PS3 technology to preserve the unique visual and epic gameplay experience.
“Every single frame of this commercial was directly rendered on a PS3 without the need for additional tweaking or touching up. We’re very proud that our game engine technology has reached the point where we don’t have to resort to software pre-rendering,” said Hermen Hulst, Managing Director. “In that regard it is a testament to our commitment to deliver on what we promise. What you see is what you get.”
SCEA will also be releasing a playable version of the ad, where users can control the camera view to explore the behind-the-scenes techniques used to create the ad. This version will also include a director’s commentary explaining the team’s efforts to develop a campaign that was true to the actual gaming experience. Additional information on Killzone 2 and PS3 can be found at http://us.playstation.com/.

A playable/interactive ad sounds pretty cool. Would have been cool if they had it ready to go this week though.
February 19th, 2009 at 4:58 PM
I’m guessing fiscal year. Otherwise hell ya GOW3 and MAG
February 19th, 2009 at 5:02 PM
Sweetness, GOW3 in 09, I’m a little skeptical abouyt that one though,
Pretty sure GOW3 will be march of 2010
February 19th, 2009 at 5:03 PM
I’ve been looking forward to Heavy Rain for quite some time, i’m very happy it’s finally coming!

Wow, that interactive ad sounds pretty awesome. Who wants to bet there’ll be some sort of contest to see who can make the best KZ2 commercial using the app at some point?
February 19th, 2009 at 5:25 PM
lol well props to you I was to busy drooling over GOW3 possibly this year
February 19th, 2009 at 5:38 PM

@ Pete LOL the only one in the world who could notice that. Thanks for the grammar lesson
February 19th, 2009 at 5:40 PM
@Pete
it is correct, there is no apostrophe needed, it is showing poession of SCEA’s plans for 2009, if i used an apostrophe, then it will sound like this:
SCEA announced it is planned 2009 line-up which is full of blockbuster titles…
February 19th, 2009 at 5:41 PM
LOL it’s handled Bones, thanks
February 19th, 2009 at 5:41 PM

That is one of the funniest comments ever.

Keep them coming! 360’s got nothing this year!
February 19th, 2009 at 5:49 PM
Well, it’s at least got Halo Wars
February 19th, 2009 at 5:54 PM
I have to admit, I want the Lost and the Damned. Wasn’t that big on Niko Bellic.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:08 PM
ya I’ll have to agree with you Sev.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:17 PM
I’d give those games four thumbs up.
(PS: That new GTA4 DLC BS… I got bored of the game after a week and a half. GTA will never be the Vice City that it once was. Everything is washed out and the same thing over and over again. I hope they end the franchise before they kill it anymore than they already have.)

As far as GOW III in 2009 goes, a March 2010 release is still possible considering that SCEA’s 2009 fiscal year ends March 31st, 2010.

Wow guess scea didn’t get the memo about sf iv being the first hit of 09′. My store sold out yesterday over 60 copies sold on ps3 (we still have craploads on 360). That interactive ad sounds cool, wonder when the ad will air on tv. Mag is coming out this year, I highly doubt that, if so its as underwraps as the next gta that comes out this next fall
February 19th, 2009 at 10:33 PM
@ john
You forgot halo odst/recon/whatever you want to call it
And knowing ms they will pay millions for more exclusive dlc for some game or annother.
Ps do they break even on dlc exclusivity royaties anyway. I don’t know any one who owns gta on 360 who bought the lost and the dammed dlc. No one on my friends list either, all are playing sf iv.
Maybe they will snag cod 5 dlc (not world at war), I hope not though. Ms has a lot of ground to make up next fall, seems like the reason 360 sold well was due to kids wanting the system more than adults. Halo is a kids game despite its m rating. Trust me I work for an electronics retailer. Ill stick with my adult oriented ps3 thank you.

xbox 360 trutly has no games for 2009 oh WOW how the mighty have fallen.

@ kingrog2000
Wow I had totally forgotten about Eyepet till you mentioned it now, you know I was sort of intrigued by Eyepet too when I first heard about it. Although I know it’s speculation but this just came to my mind, what if Eyepet had some kind of Home intergration and you were able to take your dog/cat etc etc etc… into Home and interact with it.
I mean isn’t entirely impossible since they did mention pet’s being worked on for Home. I know it’s a long shot but hey who know’s?

that’s cool getting GOW3 and Uncharted 2 but 360 has dead island, halo:ODST,alan wake, ninja blade, mass effect 2,star ocean,a better version of dead rising 2,and halo wars now even though these may not compare graphically they are certainly some of the best games coming this year. but alan wake may surprise everyone and look as good as uncharted…
