21 million strong
Sony has announced that PS3 has just hit 21 million sales worldwide. This announcement comes off the heels of their announcement of expanding the PlayStation brand to Latin America. Alongside the PS3 global sales announcement, they also released some PSN numbers. There have been 17 million PSN accounts registered. So pat yourselves on the back PS3 owners!

“pating” GO SONY!
And Sony is the only console manufacturer to provide “sold to consumer” data; MS and Ninty only provide “shipped from factory” numbers.
Shipped units. Anytime Sony, MS, Nintendo or 3rd party publisher announces sales figures BUT DOESN’T ANNOUNCE A SOURCE like Media Create, Famitsu, NPD, Chart Track/GfK, et… then it will always, always, ALWAYS mean shipped units.
Did I mention always? Because it is always. Always like the sun rising in the East and setting in the west always. Always like the acceleration of gravity at sea level being 9.8m/s^2 always. Always like Paris Hilton being a slut always.
Oh, and um…it’s nice to have visitors from E-mpire
Way to go Sony! That’s a pretty darn respectable number. Should make it hard for developers to justify not supporting the PS3.
