MakaiOokami was supporting the article, He was refering to Xbot fanboys, not Sony. That was the failing 1 time compared to 5. He was telling xbots to STFU.
As far as what Americans want, they wanted shooters, XBox has a ton of them, and they want cheap, which xbox is compared to PS3 (Parents buying for kids are gonna go with Xbox over PS3)
Lack of coherent marketing for PS3 (How many PS3 commercials do you see on prime time TV?)
Uneducated consumers falls right there with the marketing stuff. Billy Bob doesn’t have a HD TV yet, and won’t until it’s the only kind of TV he can get ’cause his is good enough for him, and worrying about his job he isn’t going to drop $1000 on a TV and $600 for a game system, but he will drop $300ish for games. He already has a DVD player, and doesn’t see why he should get a B-Ray player since it won’t look any better (and really do many of us care that we can now see the starts zits, I for one don’t give a damn, the gf got the HD, I was happy with the SD TV)

The time he condensed too much, he was saying that MS already has a large install base, and a lot of people don’t see a reason to drop another few hundred for another system when for the most part, all the games they care about are on both (the shooters from above).
The MS target is the middle class suburbanite, the real middle class (know as the median* in math, as opposed to the mean), not the $100,000+ per year household, but the $45-75K group.

I have all three consoles from this generation, and the last console I had (couldn’t really own since I was just a kid) was the Atari. Plus I have PSP’s and DS’s for the family (2 each, 2 kids with DS, 1 with PSP, and the GF has a PSP)

Wii was neat when it came out, XBox is good for Beutiful Katamari, but nothing else I can find since I don’t play shooters.

PS3 and PSP have the best games and hardware on average, but with the mass of games that Nintendo and MS have, they have some good games I’m sure. Scribblenauts souds interesting at least, I’m sure there are others.

I don’t see what people find so exciting about the XBox online stuff. Cross game chat is the only thing I’ve heard about that sounds worth a damn, but not as a monthly fee, If I want to talk, I’ll call.

So I am a fanboy, but not irrational, just Sony has made a better product and has better first party games in my oppinion, but MakaiOokami’s critisism is mostly right, his wording was a bit clunky, but I’m thinking you guys were in a bit of a mood when you read his post, so took it as an attack or something.

@jllamas: The processor for the XBox 360 is a IBM Power processer, just with 5 (I think, it could be 3) SPU’s instead of 8**. The power is close due to the XBox having a slightly better graphics chip, read some of the developers dialogs about the systems. The PS3 is better, but not drastically so, it’s more of the systems comming with all of the required stuff and not paying for online access that makes it a solid win (well the no red ring thing is nice too, I got my RRoD about a month into the XBox, but that was the only problem with it, probably because we don’t ever turn it on.)

Now if Sony would just put Opera on their systems for the web browser and bring the PSP GPS to the USA I’d be all happy

I read this entire article, the article it responds to and all of the comments, and I have to say, as a LOVER of my PS3, the one feature that I think is really really sorely lacking is the web browser. Someone needs to take the guy that wrote that browser, and the guy that let him put in the system, out back and forced to commit senpai. How about this, lets get some open source code, lets say a company that’s been around for a while, that makes a rock solid web browser and is free, and put that into the console. Who here wouldn’t love to have Firefox on their PS3? Honestly any pc from the past 10 years could run firefox and have a better web experience than with the PS3 browser. The PS3 browser sucks, hands down, and should not be used by anyone who wants to use the web.

My second gripe, weil less of a gripe as much as a feature request. Why can’t I play some music (From my HD or Media Server) while I browse the web? or home? or life? or viewing pictures? Again that anaylgy a 10 year old PC could browse the web and play music from shoutcast.com? Why are these no brainer features missing?

A side from those 2 sore points, I think the PS3 is superior in every way to the xbox 360.

P.S. In my opinion the games that were released for the PS2 (God of War, Shadow of the Colossi, etc…) at the end of life cycle for the PS2, where better than any game released for the original xbox. Which probably gets into the developer issues mentioned in both articles. Xbox 360 came out first, had a year head start, so most of the games that were ported form xbox 360 to PS3 sucked.

P.P.S Also its my opposition that something should only relabeled “Next Gen” if the product includes technology that has not pre-existed in other products. Go look at the processors for Xbox 360 verses the PS3, then come back and talk to me about “Next Gen”…

I own all three consoles from their respective launches and the one I use for games the most is the xbox. Personally, I prefer the 360 controller to the SIXAXIS, and I feel that all the online/friends/chat/party stuff works a lot better.
At the moment, the main reasons I still have my PS3 are for it’s PS2 compatibility (launch versions only), and that it is near silent. Makes watching DVDs much more enjoyable. Although I’d like to know why I can’t perform background downloads when watching DVDs. My ten year-old pc could do that.

Umm last time i looked, final fantasy was originally a NINTENDO exclusive, then it jumped to PS1 then PS2, and wait wasnt final fantasy XI only on XBOX and computer.. yet XII was on PS2 and nintendo… strange it seems its always been a jumper. who cares if a game isnt exclusive!!! if i was a developer id much rather sell to every console so i could sell the game to more people and make more money.. which is all its about to them!!!!
im DEFINATELY not a PS fanboy, if anything im nintendo.. but id much rather play LBP or Resistence that play Galo XD

Who didn’t know, doesn’t know, that the PS3 exists? Who doesn’t know about Little big Planet? Who doesn’t know about God of War? Ummmm…… Metal Gear!?!?!? I mean come on… Metal Gear.. Does Sony really need to push these titles or advertise as hard as say… Hey does anyone have any Microsoft title names other than HALO to place in this part?

trex.. I dis agree with DL times.. the problem I have is that the install times are longer the DL times. it takes me 5 min to DL something that installs in 10
