Well, wouldn’t this be a great way to kick off GDC Week.  An EB Games employee said that they have recieved a notice from Sony that, from this weekend, the PS3 will recieve a $99 price. So basically, the PS3 will sell for $299.

Sony will probably deny this to kingdom come, but there has been some recent pressure from devs for Sony to cut the price of the PS3. Take this with a pinch of salt, but people have been looking for a price cut.

GDC the perfect time for it?

This would be excellent, but I don’t know one employee won’t convince me. When it is annonced then I will believe it.

snap a pic of the notice and post it, then I’ll believe it. would be nice to see sales spike for
    all involved.

  3. It sounds good but I doubt we will see it until this fall sometime. I hope I am wrong. A $99 price cut would finally silence all or th people who complain about the high price.

  4. adolson says:

If that were true, then the new bundle wouldn’t even make sense whatsoever…

  5. Wait, what new bundle? I’d like to see a snapshot of the info, as well. But it would make sense to drop the price near the end of March, as Fiscal 08 is nearly over.

This new bundle: http://i44.tinypic.com/2konmg.jpg Priced at $399. If the 80GB without two $30 games is going to be $300, then who would buy that bundle at $399? Nobody.

  7. i think a price drop will come but i don’t think we will see it until E3 or this winter.

But who knows, if it comes this sunday then that would rock for the crazy people without a ps3.

  8. Hmm, that bundle does complicate things. Those are some REALLY old titles though. Maybe the bundle will be $299? o_o’

  9. i don’t trust gamestop emplyees

  10. adolson says:

@John – yeah, they’re old, but I think the idea is that new PS3 buyers play them, and then buy the newer sequels. Either way, Target is reporting the price is $399 for the bundle. It’s not clear if it’s exclusive to that store, but that doesn’t really change anything.

Sweet bundle for a starter PS3.
At 299 I will buy another one, never hurts to have a backup, no BC though. All these price cut rumors are bad for Sony though, people will hold off until they see the price drop which can hurt sales.

  12. itd be great if it did. my friends birthday is coming up and itd be great.
