Last week, Gamasutra published parts of a conversation between their editorial staff, and Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg. Greenberg talked about Microsoft’s latest NPD figures, as well as outright bashing Sony’s business model, by saying it was “hemorrhaging at retail”.
To this Patrick Seybold, Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media for SCEA, responded via his twitter account:
I want editors to question the numbers… 30% of PS3 titles have over 80 Metacritic score vs. 20% on Xbox… at least fact check, or ask.

Aaron Greenberg is an idiot.
I’m glad Sony at least fired back.
Oooh interesting… I have to side with Seybold here on the reviews. But it seems like they were talking about sales figures. I KNOW PS3 GAMES are higher caliber for a lot of releases, but Sony just needs to convince the public. Greenberg seems to be addressing sales not reviews.
Well, they’re both right, actually. Greenberg wasn’t stating percentages, he was counting actual titles.
Though, the PS2 has more, and that platform is still alive – I actually just bought one last month, despite owning a PS3 already.
Don’t these Microsoft guys have any Xbox 360 related work to do? It seems like all they do is talk about the PS3 these days.
You boght a PS2 awesome did you get the new model or an old school one?
@Jeff
I know right…shouldn’t they be making some first party games so that they may stand a chance against Sony in the next couple of years. I believe Sony is going to be pounding in the first party games while MS tries to score some shitty Exclusive DLC to multiplatform games.
NPD numbers are not the only diciding factor in how well a company is doing. For Microsoft employees to go on-and-on about NPD numbers is just ignorant.
You know, I find it amusing that Microsoft and Sony don’t give really give a shit about Nintendo in all of this. Maybe its because they don’t really look at the Wii as a true console, just some GameCube rehash with motion sensitivity.
The Wii is leading in sales this generation, but Sony and Microsoft seem to be in some WWE-like rivalry. It just seems like they don’t care what Nintendo does. They only care about what each other is doing.
One second, don’t be so quick to jump onboard with seybold either. People (expecially slicksters like Seybold and Greenberg are paid to tell lies with numbers.
Greenberg said “We have over 130 titles rated over 80 on Metacritic; no other platform even has 100 at that level,”
Seybold said “30% of PS3 titles have over 80 Metacritic score vs. 20% on Xbox” Now, being that the 360 has more games than the PS3 both people could be right.
Seybold is trying to make greenberg appear to be wrong by misleading you through percentages when indeed both people could be right.
These types of tactics are designed to recruit people that don’t use rational thought prior to jumping to conclusions.
I don’t know but lately I have seen MS worrying about the PS3 numbers. For example, PS3 business is hemorrhaging at retail, PS3 online user are not true, PS3 home is a piece of crap, PS3 exclusive are not so great, PS3, PS3, PS3 but the last comment coming from MS said, PS3 need a price reduction. I don’t understand wish company manage PS3, I think that they have to focus on their Xbox and let SONY manage PS3.
Are we looking at world wide sales? Are we looking at American sales. There’s like 2x as many 360s as PS3s yet most cross platform sales aren’t beating the PS3′s by 2 times as many sales. On top of that SOME games sell very similarily despite the big gap. About 6 months ago if you divided the total PS3s by how many months it had been out, and did the same thing for Xbox 360s, you would have had about 100 thousand more pS3s sold per month on average.
Plus 360s were out for over a year and just about every person that I know that has a 360 has replaced them multiple times and many people just buy new 360s… It seems like Microsoft is really kinda worried and really on edge.
They should relax. They need to listen to more fan feedback, pay less attention to Sony, and just try to make a better gaming world rather than just try to crush the competition.
A lot of people didn’t get the PS2 for a while when it helped to destroy the Sega Dreamcast. Sony has a much bigger fanbase to piss off cause remember, there are a LOT more PS2 owners/lovers/faithful than there are in Nintendo’s sales base.
Man this sounds like the greasers fighting the jocks…lol. I was a skater so I guess I dont belong in this fight lol.
pretty nice.
