A Peek Inside Gamestop’s Underworld

04/02/2009 Written by JohnDraisey

The Dallas Morning News was able to get access into a Gamestop Refurbishment Facility, and the photos they took were nothing short of astounding. Several retail stores have recently expressed interest in copying Gamestop’s success in the used games market, but many have wondered what the big holdup was.

The rosy image of Gamestop simply grabbing and repackaging unwanted merchandise certainly doesn’t ring true anymore, as the operation itself has been revealed as both intensive and expensive. Check out photos of this Gamestop Facility located in Grapevine, which is apparently as noisy as it is busy. You can thank the countless air compressors used to clean dust out of used consoles.

  1. Wow, that’s impressive. GameStop takes their business seriously…Perhaps a bit too much – I traded in some 360 games a few weeks ago, and it took ages since the clerk had to fill out some official documentation they could give to the police should my games be deemed stolen.

  2. That sure is a lot of PSPs. lol

This opens my eyes to how serious GameStop is about re-selling quality refurbished products. I always thought they slapped a used sticker on everything and sold things as they were, without fully testing them out.

  6. Bonus points to anyone who can identify all the DVDs in the 2nd picture. I can tell Fight Club and Hulk, Alien vs. Predator (AVP) and Cellular. Anyone else recognize any?

  7. Double points if you can identify ANY of the games in the second-to-last picture.

GAMESTOP IS THE DEVIL!!!!!! LOL, except when they have good trade in deals.

  9. hmm… that might be EA’s Head Coach 09 with Tony Dungee on it.

  10. They still rip you off when buying used products.

  11. These people take the business seriously.

i don’t think they do.. its just another average day at work. its not like there reprogramming there just boxing stuff and seeing if they work. most gamestops don’t even check for personal info.. just sign.

this is very upsetting to me. I hate how Gamestop has almost complete control over the retail of games, doesn’t anyone else think it’s absolutely horrifying that Exclusive content IN GAME is only achieved if you buy (or even preorder) from Gamestop?? If this continues and expands, i think they’re going to see a lot of really REALLY pissed off gamers.

But… by that time it would probably be too late, as our options will be limited to where we can buy from.
