Killzone 2 had rumors of co-op DLC before it was officially released. Now that the game has been out for nearly 2 months, Guerrilla Games has decided to lay that rumor, hope, or legend, depending on how you see it, to rest. Hermen Hulst of Guerrilla Games had this to say regarding a co-op mode:
“We looked at all the different flavors of co-op early on, but decided our first priority would have to be the single-player experience and the multiplayer,” Hulst informed Game Informer. “Rather than just tack on co-op, it would have to be integrated and done to a similar standard as the single and multiplayer.”
“Having looked at it again now. I do not think we would want to add it as DLC,” he said.
Disappointed? It’s ok. Killzone 2 is still one of the best games of 09 and this generation as a whole. And Hulst’s high standards for co-op implementation are actually a relief, and show that if Guerilla does decide to do co-op, they’ll do it right. New DLC is being released on April 30th as well. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date on this topic, so stay tuned!

Aww… I was really looking forward to this. I’m sorry to say this but the game itself isn’t AMAZING, it’s a great game with some stunning graphics but what I really love is the gameplay, and co-op would make really make this the cream of the crop.
I wish there were some interesting easter eggs or something. Games these days seem to want to be so serious and realistic. Where did all of the fun go??
Yeah wasn’t too amazing other than the graphics.
this is so stupid! it is a great game but it would be so much better with co-op and offline multiplayer. they are just lazy
yea bond, they are just lazy your right… damn idiot
Bond2e2, there’s a good reason why Offline Co-op can’t be “patched in” to an existing game, and why it’s detrimental. The game engine would have to essentially have to double up on everything in terms of rendering, and have adverse effects on data streaming off the hard drive and disc.
Online Co-op patching is difficult for other reasons, mainly the fact that every single physics simulation, AI decision, sound cue, script, etc., has to be perfectly in sync across the network. If the title has very low hardware requirements (such as Call of Duty: World at War), then it’s definitely possible. But again, that game was designed around the limits of co-op gameplay.
Guerrilla wanted the best looking and best playing Single-player campaign on the market, and they couldn’t have done that if they had chosen to support Co-op within their single-player campaign. The possibility though is there in the future if they go the Insomniac route, which is to create a separate Co-op mode, or simply no Single-player.
Have a Co-op mode that lets you play with an AI buddy, and just have That labeled “Single-Player”. We’ll see what they do with KZ3.
i hope that they dont go the insonmiac route bc r2 was bad
also i never knewee that they couldnt add offline, i knew that online co-op was hard to do. just was let down
I am sorry but every shooter does not have to have co-op. This game is amazing the way it is. I would not call GG lazy for not wanting to mess with that.
