In an interview with Famitsu, Kawagoe Takayuki, Executive Officer of SEGA Japan, explained how difficult a year 2008 was for SEGA, and that the global recession definitely had an effect on the company as a whole.

However, he continued in a more optimistic mannery, citing that his company was encouraged by sales of PS3 exclusive, Yakuza 3, and PSP exclusive, Phantasy Star Portable. Both titles have sold approximately half a million units in Japan alone.

Takayuki went on to state that, “due to the success of these [games], Sega wishes to bring excitement to gamers with more quality titles.”

Sega use to be my favorite company at one time (yeah I was one of those crazed Saturn fans that payed too much), but after their buyout they just went to crap. So I found it odd when I started buying Sega titles again. They may not develop great games much anymore, but they sure publish some great games. So when will we see Yakuza 3 and the new Jet Set Radio?

Wishes to bring excitement to gamers with more quality titles? Great. Let’s start out with bringing Yakuza 3 to the US, and a Dreamcast/old school Home Space. Oh, and of course a Sonic games that doesn’t suck. Though I’ve come to accept that last request as it is.
