In Japan, the PSP narrowly edged out the Nintendo DSi in sales last week, with a lead of just 213 units. Technically, the DS sold more overall, but that’s just the way things are counted since Sony doesn’t rebrand each new itteration of the PSP handheld. Meanwhile, the PS3 kept up its momentum to keep its spot as the top-selling home console. The full figures are posted below.

Very surprising IMO considering the DSi is receiving much more publicity. (And commercials with celebrities)

The PSP-4000 should do even more damage, especially if the design rumors end up being true. I would easily ditch my 1000 series PSP (i.e. PSP Fat) for that one.

Impressive considering the people in Japan will buy a DS product even before buying food for themselves.

@Robotron
I heard the DSi’s power cord can be traded for ten sushi rolls. And a drink.

I read an article about the Wii slipping in Japan. Its hurting the Wii that a lot of popular games can’t be easily ported to the Wii from the PS3 or the 360. It’s either not easy or its impossible because of the capabilities of the PS3 and 360.
Oh well, it’s not like I ever viewed it as a “true” console anyway. lol

@TheHater:
No kidding, man. I’m pretty surprised about this news, actually. I figured the DSi’s sales were going to explode, but then I read this news… amazing.
