Fallout: New Vegas has been officially announced at Bethesda’s press conference in London. The newest installment in the series was revealed by Bethesda’s Pete Hines, who says the publisher has hired Obsidian Entertainment to work on the multiplatform title. Hines said:

“It is not a sequel to Fallout 3. It’s simply another Fallout game in that universe.”

Hines added that this title will have no impact on the project that Todd Howard and his team are working on. Obsidian Entertainment is known for developing Alpha Protocol, Neverwinter Nights, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2.

  1. Oh great. Another Bethesda title that will ultimately get screwed out of DLC for the PS3? I think I’ve learned my lesson and I will pass.

  2. The game sounds interesting. I mean, I can just picture Vegas in the same way as D.C. in Fallout 3, but the DLC thing is getting predictable. lol

I liked Fallout 3, but not DLC only for xbox/pc. Getting platinum trophy for F3 was long enough though,
can’t imagine needing more content. What the PS3 version needs is to get rid of the lvl 20 soft cap
so you can continue after the robot walk.

Yah i’ll give this one a try :P

  5. Given the inexcusable glitches their previous game had, I’m going to hold off on this one. Normally it’d be a day one buy, but I’m not going to pay them $60 for the privilege of being a beta-tester. Once I am certain they’ve fixed any and all game-breaking bugs, then and only then will I buy it.

Problem is that game dev’s no longer take the time to make sure what they are using as their development platform makes the best use out of all platform hardware. When you look at the core technologies of this generation of hardware they all use the same core CPU but the extras are what seperate the men from the boys (Sony=Men). When you have such a small difference and then develop games on the lowest common denominator theory then you will evetually put out a product on at least one platform that sucs another that sucs less and one that has a smaller installed base that can’t make sales worth it…

When Microsoft created the original X-box they started a method of using existing off the shelf technology with a dedicated intel/nvidia system board and locked down the installed bios so that upgrading the hardware was limited to MS only products or you could not go on their network.

Sony decided to go a different route with the PS3 and made it user friendly.and is now going to really head north in sales later in its lifecycle.

So if this DLC keeps happening just remember that a DVD can only hold so much information compared to a Blu-Ray disc. Sony don’t need DLC as much because they have the storage capacity on the disc to include it. And that makes it cheaper in the long run to make games…

So, will this be like the original Fallouts? Or like Fallout 3?

  8. DGR8Mc187 says:

Never cared for any of bethesda’s games so it’s a pass for me.

  9. Robotron says:

I have been playing every Bethesda game since Morrowind….but Fallout 3 is the last I will buy until they get a better development/testing team. Their games are always just too buggy. I like their ideas and direction, but the implementation and final build always seem to fall short. Also I just don’t support companies that do exclusive DLC for only one system. I don’t think it’s fair for either side when it happens. So I vote with my wallet…..not like it helps since “piracy” seems to be the buzzword for poor sales.

It’s being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, so we might see a fair share of DLC if it comes out. Hopefully, they’ll be as good to the PS3 version, as the Xbox 360 version.

    this, to bethesda AND valve.

I agree. If I’m going to drop $60 bucks on a game, I expect to have the same opportunity to DLC as some Xbox guy. I mean, he’s paying $60 bucks for his game, too. So why is my console being singled out?

If I’m going to be passed over and I’m not getting the same bang for my buck as others, then they aren’t getting my money.
