Capcom R&D Keiji Inafune has confirmed that Dead Rising 2 will feature multiplayer. Inafune told journalists this:

“We’re at a point in game history that you need to have some form of multiplayer component in a game.”

He continued with:

“Single-player alone is not going to cut it. So rest assured we are going to put multiplayer in the game, but I can’t go into specifics about what type of multiplayer as that directly relates to some of the game systems that we don’t want to talk about at this event. It will be online multiplayer, so keep that in mind.”

So there you have it, Dead Rising 2 will have multiplayer. But how do you think they’ll pull this off? Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.

It would be even better if it was offline multiplayer too.

  2. Offline? You don’t mean split-screen, do you?

ya i know every game should have offline (split-screen) multiplayer, i dont get why everyone thinks that all you need is online. Dont get me wrong i love playing online but sometimes i just want to play with my friends (when they are in the same room)

  4. The reason why most games these days don’t have spit-screen multiplayer is because it’s technologically impossible. For example, in this game, you’d basically be asking the console to render the entire open world game, replicate the AI, and render the 6000 onscreen enemies, do all that twice, all while maintaining a decent framerate and the high level graphics we expect out of a current gen console.

No offense, but you may as well be asking them to have pizzas come flying out of disc slot.

For a linear game, it’s a possibility, so long as you don’t have that much happening on-screen at one time. For an open world game? Not likely unless you’re willing to take a serious graphical hit.

hmmm gonna have to give this a rent at best.

  8. I disagree with the statement made in the article. I don’t think we’re at point where every game needs some sort of multiplayer, there just haven’t been many games good enough to have only single player (with exception of MGS4, RE5, Uncharted and BioShock). Inafune is saying that probably because he knows that ideas (original at least) for games aren’t what they used to be in terms of addiction. If a games is so good that it’s addicting, then people would overlook the absence of multiplayer. And if a game that’s so addicting has good multiplayer, then it will turn out to be an even greater game. Start with making a good, solid single player game, then work on multiplayer.

Also, I think I’m really going to enjoy this sequel. I’m a big fan of the zombie/outbreak genre and i have high hopes for this game (at least about the single player aspect).
