In a recent interview with Game Informer magazine, a Guerilla Games representative talked about Killzone 2, and how the gaming media constantly compares Killzone 2 to other major shooter franchises.
“We generally don’t mind [comparisons], as I can think of worse franchises to be compared to than [Halo or Call of Duty],” says Guerilla Games managing director Herman Hulst in the latest Game Informer. ” What I don’t like is being labeled as the “killer” of franchise X.
“We’ve set up Killzone as a universe and an experience in its own right, without wanting to benchmark it against any one particular game. We’re, obviously, gamers ourselves and we play anything from World of Warcraft to LittleBigPlanet to MotorStorm or Guitar Hero, but there isn’t one title that has been the biggest influence.”
So, in other words, stop comparing Killzone 2 to a Halo or a Gears of War, as Guerilla Games doesn’t want any of it. Not to mention it’s like comparing apples to oranges, as each respective game has different strengths, weaknesses, and even focal points.
true
He’s got a point there.
Valid.. but being labeled by the media as Halo killer does have a nice ring.. i feel they surpassed Halo. i always found Halo boring and to bright and colorful..the design for Halo also annoyed me..
Apples and oranges are still both fruit.
They’re sitting themselves up on a pretty high horse… screw them! All of us that have played the game have the ability to formulate an informative opinion. Screw them if they want to try to tell us how to spread word of their game to potential players. Their own mock comparisons are even at the furthest, most extreme end of the spectrum. I know they’re proud of their work and they want it to be distinguished and stand out from the rest of the hundreds of FPS’s, but
oops…
But as I was saying, screw them for pulling the dictatorship card.
this is kind of taken out of context. the original question was what games influenced you in the making of killzone and yes halo and cod were brought up. but this makes it sound like they were answering to people comparing their game to others which wasnt exactly the case.
anyway i think gg has every right to state their case about their game. they worked hard on it and have even worked harder on KEEPING the people happy. theyve already got 5 patches and a dlc within the first few months of sale. i dont mind them making these statements. its good to see a company stand up for their work.
yea, compare kz to real war
I agree, they shouldn’t compare killzone to other shooters…cuz well its a different shooter in itself, same as gears is a different shooter and the cod series…their all their own type of shooter…and all great games.
