Microsoft has launched an anti-PS3 campaign in Japan. The company has released a pamphlet to the Japanese public, taking shots at the PlayStation 3 left and right.
The cover itself says, “Xbox 360 over PS3 if you are picking multi-platform games”. Really? The pamphlet also calls out the [shal]PS3[/shal] on price, saying “XBOX Live Arcade system – cheaper than the PS3″. It also describes Tales of Vesperia superior on the Xbox 360.
Pretty odd considering the PS3 version fixes problems from the 360 version, in addition to including more content. It’s surprising to see how far Microsoft has gone in order to mislead potential customers. Let’s see where they go next.

Microsoft can go to hell. They know the ps3 has been owning in Japan the past months and are trying to change it with lies.
May 4th, 2009 at 6:00 PM
that’s stupid…microsoft isn’t doing good except in the US and Canada…..doesn’t surprise me that they’d do something like this lol.
May 4th, 2009 at 6:00 PM
This is why PS3 will continue to dominate the XBOX360 in Japan. The Japanese aren’t as stupid as us Americans. They actually research shit and form their own opinions rather than believe anything that is spoon-fed to them, especially from MS.
May 4th, 2009 at 6:07 PM
Awww poor Microsoft. Can’t beat the PS3 in Japan and your half the price. Maybe the Japanese don’t like faulty hardware as much as the Americans and Europeans
And how can vesperia on the 360 be better? The PS3 version will fix any bugs and add content. It will be just like eternal sonata where the PS3 version was superior
May 4th, 2009 at 6:08 PM
This is what happens when you start to lose.
This is also why the gaming sites have quotes from MS execs bad mouthing Sony this year….because they have nothing else to talk about. MS has nothing to be proud about this gen. The released on of the worst pieces of hardware in video game history and refuse to own up to their mistake (except for changing how a RRoD reports on the new consoles….great MS don’t actually fix the problem, just make the RRoD go away).
May 4th, 2009 at 6:16 PM
LOL HATERS MAKE US STRONGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 4th, 2009 at 6:35 PM
@ FiftyQuid
Your exactly right. The Japanese will look at that and laugh. They know their products and know what they are buying. I can’t believe MS actually thought that might work….
May 4th, 2009 at 6:36 PM
thats funny, id laugh if there sales sink after this….
May 4th, 2009 at 6:37 PM
That is just low
May 4th, 2009 at 6:38 PM
This is the worst advertisement ever. What if Sony released commercial that said “Buy a PS3, it’s MUCH better then the 360″. There is no content or thought in that whatsoever.
May 4th, 2009 at 6:40 PM
i actually want the PS3 to dominate in the US. they have great games, selections and a solid constantly improving system. just to shut MS up about “winning” when from my understanding the PS3 is catching up.
May 4th, 2009 at 6:42 PM
@smokey_vols
there trying to create doubt in Japanese consumers mind.. even if its for half a second
May 4th, 2009 at 6:53 PM
See, the problem is, MS is and American company used to advertising in America. As in, they think the consumers are easily led and manipulated by adverts. The Japanese…..well, they’re simply not that stupid. They’re not going to believe something just because you’ve told them that’s the way it is. They don’t go into things blindly; when they buy a PS3, they know exactly what they’re getting.
They know the same thing about the 360, which is why many of them were so damned pissed when ToV was announced for the PS3. They had wanted to play the game, but really didn’t want to buy a 360 because they were well aware of the issues it had and would have. However, they wanted to play the game, so they had no choice….but now it’s as if that was a waste of time given the game is now coming out for the console they wanted it on in the first place.
It’s a double-sided issue, because Sony is a Japanese company not 100% familiar with the American lead-you-by-the-dick advertising that works for the masses here.
May 4th, 2009 at 7:04 PM
haha microsoft is getting scared. damn scared.
May 4th, 2009 at 7:18 PM
Wow.. can you believe this..lol.. Ok, let’s see..
PS3 comes out a year after XBOX 360…
MIC. SOFT touts much larger library, which is a joke because having games from your OLD catalog which NO ONE really plays or BUYS anymore is counted, hence why they “have more games” avaialable…Yet PS3 has more games out their BEING PLAYED….
PS3 news states that it will include a Hi Def Blu Ray PLayer, and their games are being MADE in Hi Def, use a HDMI cable and inlcuding a Hard Drive.
M. Soft laughs and mocks Sony going off on how Microsoft see’s NO reason for a HDMI cable, or having a game actually bneing made on Blu Ray and finally saying there is no need for Hard Drive
The free world, and Sony Playstation users, fall over and everone laughs it’s ass off at M.Soft because it shows how moronic they really are and have no clue about the future.
.
PS3’s Hi Def Blu Ray discs, usage of HDMI, and the included large Hard Drive goes above people’s expectations, and mroe importantly outperform people’s expecatations and is now the official standard for the future of gaming.
After the PS3 was out for the 1st 6-8 months, gaming sites and players marvel at the look of the games, the actual gameplay, the hi def imagary and being able to STORE large files on the H Drive…
Months later M. Soft announces that they will be coming out with, and selling HDMI cables, and seperate Hard Drives for the XBOX360
(making Sony users and the business world, laugh at M. Softs backtracking on those issues)….
M. Soft statestheir maching is much better, and it is much cheaper to own a 360 then a PS3
Sony proves that wrong with press statement saying for the $499 PS3 w/ 60gb HD, controller, etc is roughly 150 bucks LESS then the M Soft Xbox 360, after you add in the price for the new Hard Drive, the new HDMI Cable and (something else i forget, sorry) the 360 would run over $700 bucks, much more expensive then any of the PS3’s.
As time goes by, developers are getting a hand of the technology…Sony then releases a developers kit which they send to all their developers around the world so they can have a better grasp of the Cell processor.
Now a year + later, the games that have, and are coming out for the PS3, are looking better then anything the Xbox has, and the gameplay is much better as well…….
Nothing is heard from Microsoft.. some pot shots here and their, but nothing major
..then a few weeks ago they make some cracks that PS3 is on a downfall, completely OPPOSITE of the truth as it is proven what they say is BS…
Now the PS3 is gaining lots of momentum and now is selling MORE units then the XBOX, AND the Wii…..
Now M Soft has the nerve to come out with a site, that knocks/rips into the PS3 and considering i don’t know Japanese, who knows what it says..BUT I DO KNOW THA TTHEY ARE SHAKING IN THEIR DIAPERS BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEIR FU#@ED

haskell420 wins the internet today for the longest post ever on PSLS, I forgot the point I was going to make after reading it.

Should we try to make our system better? No, we should just result to attack ads

@SolidCake_
Lol I couln’t read it one sitting – I had to take a couple of breaks.
May 4th, 2009 at 9:28 PM
hahaha, I am definitely glad to see someone else fired up over stupid marketing and bad business. I really don’t have any worries that this will make a difference though. At this point, the mass numbers of consumers have made up their mind.
May 4th, 2009 at 10:51 PM
@SolidCake:
Ahahahaaahaaa! +1 for laugh of the week.
On topic:
Microsoft has sunk to a new low with this. Their machines are prone to numerous defects and… I’m not getting into it.

great post

Well they at least have a proven track record in the PC World. Look at the fact that the Apple OS is ten times better on an Intel platform than MS is or will ever think to be. They have been chasing down the look and feel of the Apple OS ever since they hijacked the code for Windows from Apple in the 1980’s. They still have not built a winning OS and they are the top PC OS maker.
Now they want to be the largest Game Console manufacturer, well you can see by the shortcuts that are being taken, that they are at least the largest manufacturer of broken systems this generation. And they even used some of Sony’s CPU hardware to try and beat them and still can’t do it on a level/honest playing field.
It is not the fault of the hardworking people that really believe that what they are doing is of value, they are also being fed the koolaide but a different version.
This type of spin marketing is the thing that MS does best. If anybody would actually read the license agreement for their OS’s you would find that you do not actually own the OS and just like the PSN or XBL networks they can remove your ability to use it if they don’t like what you are saying or doing with their products.
So I am not surprised by these efforts to obfuscate their lack of success in the market place.
May 4th, 2009 at 11:33 PM
@Haskell, Good post. And yes, Microsoft is nervous. There’s a reason they’ve shut down almost all internal studios, have almost no exclusives for 2009, and are in talks with 3rd parties about prepping for the next Xbox console.
May 4th, 2009 at 11:37 PM
Isn’t it illegal to do what Microsoft is doing? I know it’s illegal for American businesses to offer bribes to businesses in other countries. I think they are walking a thin line.
Wait…can anyone else confirm that the fliers really talk about the Xbox being better than the PS3?!
May 4th, 2009 at 11:47 PM
Any Japanese in here? I want to know what their opinion is towards this.
May 5th, 2009 at 12:52 AM
@ZemaOner
The article doesn’t explicitly say this, it simply implies it. Of course, most gamers can immediately call BS on that implication. The Arcade 360 is cheaper than the PS3, but it’s also cheaper than the Wii. Microsoft hasn’t been too keen on acknowledging the Wii’s existence. Maybe they’re too embarrassed.

It’s freaking sad. I mean come on Microsoft…
“Our version of a game that isn’t out is better”
Oh are you looking at a final build? No? SHUT IT!
“360 versions are better on the 360 than the PS3 versions”
Oh really?
People are going to spend a few hundred extra dollars (or thousands of yen) to buy a new console so that they can PLAY A SLIGHTLY BETTER VERSION OF THE GAME THAN THEY COULD HAVE BOUGHT ON THEIR SYSTEM? How about they just buy a damn PC? That has the best version between the THREE of them. What kind of arguments are you making?
How come we aren’t hearing about the awesome new wonderful IPs that you’re doing? Do you have any?
Last I remember you have no platformer with tons of customizeability. Last I remember you don’t have any TACTICAL shooters exclusively. Last I remember Ninja Gaiden 2 said “Xbox Only” and is getting MUCH more on the PS3.
So… I got my PC, I got my PS3, there’s nothing I need to get a 360 for.
May 5th, 2009 at 4:34 AM
Micro$oft, you dirty, dirty bastards. too bad (for you) it’s not going to work. i can almost feel the backlash in Japan as i type this. better multi-platform games on the 360 are pretty much a thing of the past. all you’ve got left is wads of cash to buy out exclusive DLC and a console that’s quickly running out of steam. better get crackin’ on that 720 (or whatever yer gonna call it.)

M$ – No wonder there are millions of us out there that have modded your system and refuse to pay you a cent!!!!!! Your dirty crooks and were going to fuck you over as much as possible.
May 5th, 2009 at 7:45 PM
I hate to agree Sneeches, but I know of a few people who did just that.
Their systems died, MS refused to fix it (they were non-RRoD problems) so they got a modder to repair the console and now they only pirate games. Not saying it’s the best decision, but people are tired of dropping $500-$1000 and getting screwed by a company that won’t back their hardware.
I had a friends 360 DVD die and I told him to wrap it in a towel until he got a RRoD so MS would fix it.
It’s really sad when people have to resort to that. Nice work MS.
