Schmartz has announced a remote that coverts infrared signals into a PS3 compatible Bluetooth signal. In other words, it acts like a PS3 remote. The only difference is that in this case, the remote is your computer.
The PS3IR-1000 isn’t just a IR to Bluetooth converter. When connected to a PC via USB, you can control your Playstation 3. For this to work, you must be in the Bluetooth range of the PS3 (about 30 feet) The best part is there is no software or updates you have to install in order to use this device. All you have to do is plug in the device to your PC via USB, and then you’re set.
The PS3IR-1000 is the ultimate infrared (IR) to Bluetooth converter for the PS3. It provides the same functionality as the PS3 BD remote control with the added ability to accept standard IR commands. These IR commands are converted to Bluetooth packets that are sent to the PS3. This device will easily make your PS3 compatible with all IR universal remote controls. And, it will allow you to seamlessly integrate your PS3 into your home theater system.
In addition, when connected to a PC via USB, it allows you to control your PS3 straight from your desktop. There are no drivers to install, and the software application is a single executable file compatible with Windows 2000 and later.
The PS3IR-1000 retails for just $79.00.
this is pretty good for $80 bucks. too bad i have a mac
No thanks. I’d rather wait for the Logitech model. This one looks so cheaply made too.
Will the Logitech one work with remotes other than the Logitech Harmony? That’d be cool, if it did. I’d pick it up and then buy a Harmony remote later on.
too expensive.
Meh……
why do I need this? serious question btw
what could you do with this? like…. you can control it, but can you transfer data?
What exactly can this thing do that I can’t do with my 20 dollar remote specifically?
all valid questions. i can’t remember ever thinking “man, this Sony BD remote sure is cool, but i would really rather be using my crappy Universal remote that doesn’t have half the functions of my BD remote.” i’ve read in the past that some people really want this ability, but i surely have no use for it, nor do i have $80 burning a hole in my wallet.
Can anyone provide a real world example of why you’d want this?
BTW, Schmartz can bite my ass for now putting a Mac version out. Mac FTW!
hhahah what a waste of money… I’ll stick to using my PS3 controller thank you very much…
That’s pretty sick, but I think I’m just going to go ahead and buy a PSP sometime soon.
