This week is looking very bare in terms of update content. Let’s hope the quality is there, because quantity sure isn’t. Patapon 2 is hitting the store today as the first digital download only PSP title. Puzzle Quest Galactrix is finally being released. Of course we have our weekly DLC serving from [shal]LittleBigPlanet[/shal], Rock Band, and Guitar Hero World Tour. Lastly, that [shal]Wolverine Demo[/shal] we have been rumoring should finally hit the store today, since the EU store saw surprise Friday release last week. We will update the article as new information comes to light.
Qore Episode 12 – Uncharted 2 Beta Voucher (Annual Subscribers Only)
Puzzle Quest Galactrix
Patapon 2
LittleBigPlanet DLC – Norse Mythology Pack
Rock Band DLC
Guitar Hero World Tour DLC – Ferret/Metal Blade Track Pack
That’s it for confirmed content, the rest is strictly rumored…

why is patapon a rumor? I thought it was confirmed to come to the PS Store, to co inside with the release of the game on disc.
05/06/2009 at 10:49 AM
the game is NOT releasing on disc – the retailers are giving out vouchers that include a PSN redemption code and only digitally distributed.
May 6th, 2009 at 10:37 AM
this is taken directly from the playstation blog…so you can change your article if possible.
“In addition to these vouchers hitting the store shelves, on Thursday, May 7th, you will all be able to download Patapon 2 from the PlayStation Network and the Patapon 2 mass consumption can begin”
05/06/2009 at 10:44 AM
I will fix it when I get home.
May 6th, 2009 at 10:46 AM
yes PS Blog confirmed Patapon yesterday. Puzzle Quest looks like a tedious mess to me btw.
I just don’t have time to figure out all that crap anymore.

@Stalking Silence – seriously? No UMD??? Wow that’s going to suck for people with no internet and no PS3 that want to play this game.
05/06/2009 at 11:48 AM
How would you get it with a PS3 with no internet?
Really it’s the internet access that would be a concern – so you’d have to get on anywhere with unprotected wireless from your PSP. Doesn’t seem that unreasonable to expect PSP owners to have some access to internet at some time.
May 6th, 2009 at 11:43 AM
@Sneeches – I agree with you, and would take a UMD over download any day of the week (I like owning what I pay for.. and the ability to resell if it I don’t like it or no longer want it) but… get used to it. When PSP Go arrives, I think you’ll see UMD production drop dramatically.. There’s Fate/Unlimited Codes coming to the PSP as well, and IIRC, that will also not have a UMD release.

I think we might see a demo for Disney/Pixar’s Up! as well.
May 6th, 2009 at 11:55 AM
they are only having it come out over the interent because so many poeple are hacking their psp and getting all their games for free which made game devs stop making games for psp. And if they dont have interent they can go to panera or something and use theirs
May 6th, 2009 at 12:09 PM
@Sneeches
I don’t know anybody without some sort of internet connection or access. If you dont’ have a PS3,then just use the PC store to download it .
May 6th, 2009 at 12:26 PM
@Enewtabie – My brothers who live at my parents have never had the internet and have owned a 360 for ever…. BUT they just got the internet a few months ago… They couldn’t get it because they lived 15 min outside the city, which is completely retarded.
SO like my brothers, there are millions of others out there who do not have the internet and will miss out on a game like this because of the digital download only. I think that’s a stupid move on the dev’s part and sony’s part.

As far as Patapon is concerned, it’s not as if a person has o options. The PlayStation Store is on 3 fronts (PC, PS3, PSP), and even a person w/o internet at their house can find it in most areas. Most pizza places where I live offer free wireless internet. Hell, when my sister delivered her baby a couple of weeks ago, I was using my PSP to hook up to their Wi-Fi at the hospital to e-mail people, update my facebook, check my Twitter feeds, post on our forums, and to buy Killzone: Liberation.
Most libraries also offer internet access. Trust me; if a person has their wits about them, they have plenty of options unless they are literally in the middle of nowhere, in which case they’re probably unaware of Patapon 2 anyway.
May 6th, 2009 at 12:33 PM
@Sneeches -
76% of Americans have internet access. I would wager somewhere north of 90% of PSP owners do. I really think that’s a subsection of the market Sony can afford to ignore.
Concerns about not having a physical product on the other hand are probably more valid.
05/06/2009 at 4:18 PM
Additional fact: 100% of PSLS readers have internet access.

I got the Wolverine demo from the EU/UK store last week– it is SICK! So much fun, but obviously a bit repetitive. None the less, I’ll rent this game to see the rest of it.
May 6th, 2009 at 4:13 PM
@ Sneeches
Every Gamestop has a download center right there at the store so you can purchase and download before you leave the store just bring your PSP, good thing it’s portable.
May 6th, 2009 at 4:19 PM
Oh yeah, don’t forget about Qore – Episode 12?
May 6th, 2009 at 4:25 PM
@ Blood&Guts:
That is the problem with that type of game made from a movie… Repetitive since it is also a demo but when your character and his role in the game are limited then you will always have a repetitive nature to the game…
I think that is why FPS/TPS games are more popular in the American Market, we get bored easier and we don’t like to wait for a games plot to come forward or should I say that we don’t need a plot in a game we just want to “KILL KILL KILL”….
But for those that are more inclined to be a bully in school then this game is right up their psychological alley…

Patapon 2 is the only descent one.

On the internet front, one of the plans in the Stimulus was to bring internet to places that didn’t have it.
Besides there are a lot of McDonald’s, Malls, friends, Burger Kings, Hastings, truck stops, rest stops, and so many other places around the country that people can go online. It’s no less secure using your credit card on your PSP than it is to pay by credit card essentially anywhere in real life. They just take a piece of paper, place it over, and scribble on it with a crayon or even take a picture via cellphone.
It only takes minute to pop in your credit card info. If you’re using a credit card on the PSN or have like a 5 dollar wal-mart visa card or a PSN card to your account then you can easily protect yourself further.
Besides it’s not that they’re doing this game on UMD only because people are pirating it. They’ll just pirate the versions from other countries. (hell we’ve had it for a long time now)
As far as the “Well what if I decide to sell it?” what do you need to sell it for? I dont’ know about you but I don’t buy crappy games if at all possible. I make sure I”m going to like a game before I get it therefor have no reason to want to sell the game for 1/3 or less of what I paid for it. Wouldn’t you rather the devs and Sony make more money off the game? Wouldn’t you rather cut into the used game market so that devs can actually get their money?
Besides you can activate the game on up to 5 psps. You could even go to 4 people and go “Hey i’ll sell you Patapon 2 for 10 dollars” copy it over. They can protect their investment by downloading the PC app and backing up the game that way. So I don’t even think concerns of not having a physical medium are quite valid.
In fact I have a co-worker who has a PSP stolen 2 times along with all of his games. I know another guy whose psp and games were stolen.
Then there’s all the complaints of UMDs breaking. To me this is a great way of protecting an investment.
As far as not having a retail case. many people that have bought used have gotten a fake insert anyway.
i can’t think of a single valid argument in terms of keeping UMD. Not to mention that you don’t have to worry about carrying UMDs around considering the 16GB cards that have come out and how much data can be put. You can get 4GB cards fairly cheaply and could even separate your cards by Genre especially if you find more good deals.
