Resident Evil Series Hits Huge Milestone

05/09/2009 Written by Kyle P.

The Resident Evil series has just passed a huge milestone.  Today Capcom announced that the series, which began in 1996 and has since spanned 55 SKUs, sold 40 million units.

The most recent entry, Resident Evil 5, has shifted a respectable 4.4 million units. Unfortunately, Resident Evil 5 didn’t take the crown as the best-selling RE game. Resident Evil 2, which released exclusively on the Playstation, still remains the series’ best-selling title.

These numbers solidifies the Resident Evil franchise as one of the best-selling videogame series around.

Ahhh the king of the Resi series is still RE2– awesome! I wouldn’t be surprised, however, if 5 outsells 2 eventually. 5/5
