New PS3 Firmware to Launch at E3?

According to PS3-Sense.nl and their “reliable source”, Sony is getting set to release a firmware update during E3. The translation from Dutch says that the firmware update will be “fat” meaning very feature heavy. Last year Sony had something like the ready to go during E3 with the PSN Video Service, so something like this is not at all far fetched.
Will cross game voice chat finally be released? What other features could be in this firmware update? We are just going to have to wait until E3 to find out.
PlayStation LifeStyle will be live-blogging the SCEA Press Conference so you will know the second this is announced, if it is announced at all.

Software backwards compatibility would be excellent.. Then I could give away my PS2 to someone who doesn’t have one yet. Ah, wishful thinking.

Yeah, it’s going to be pretty great. Anthony and I tested out the software awhile back (it’s the same set-up the PlayStation.Blog uses for their live Q&A sessions), and it runs smoothly and updates quickly. You guys should really enjoy it.

dam, Sony momentum this year far outshines the competition. if they wipeout 360 in the US it will be an ultimate comeback.

It’s probably the VidZone service for Europe. Seems fair since the Video store was announced last year for NA.

I hope VidZone is something like netflix.
Sony needs it’s own service like this, a monthly price for downloading videos & whatnot. I think they need a much larger video base be4 something like this tho.
I’m sure it’s going to be a great firmware update.

through the translation it says “fat” but that doesn’t mean feature heavy lol.. i read directly from the dutch source and they say “vet” which directly translates to “fat” but they actually mean a cool update! lol just thought i’d let you know

if this is true, then i am going to be looking forward to E3 a lot more now. I didnt really care about god of war and mag i know about those i want something new, something that will make the ps3 that much cooler. you know?

Oh, E3 is going to be full of surprises. This year is going to be huge for Sony. They have so many announcements to make, it’ll be interesting to see them fit everything into the press conference. They’ll either have to talk really fast, or have a longer press conference.
Either way, when it’s all said and done, everyone will be talking about Sony.

Come on guys you know what happens to rumors they get all bent out of shape and then the reputation of PSLS on the internet is tarnished. I hate it when that happens. Lets just be happy that there is a possibility that the firmware upgrade will allow game developers add more features to their games…
