fw276

Just a heads up to everyone that Firmware 2.76 is now available for all [shal]PS3[/shal] owners.

As quoted from the official PlayStation Blog:

“This is a minor update that improves the playback quality of some PS3 format software.”

But as we all know, there’s always a few sneaky features thrown in during these ‘standard’ [shal]firmware[/shal]updates. Let’s see what you guys and gals can dig up!

Update: Seems as if Trophy/Profile Viewing has been made almost instantly viewable to the PS3 user. Also the Divx codec has been fixed.

    thank you for the heads up. i just had my clan members on kz2 make sure they downloaded it so they wouldnt miss their tournament match in 25 min. thanks peterson.

  2. Hope you made your clan match, Jeneric. I’m on my 3rd attempt to download it “via Internet” – in the future, I might have to download on PC then transfer. I hate when there are hiccups with the MANDATORY firmware add-ons.

    Thanks for the quick notice, Pete. I think we’ll see some hidden features coming to light soon. I don’t know of any, but it’d be nice to see expanded avatar support say, next week?

  3. I cant find nothing new…anyone find something

  4. Idk, but it seems like the trophies loading are almost instantaneous when looking at a friend’s trophies. I’ve never noticed it being that fast.

  5. SomeomePR says:

    @JP
    Not only the trophy loading but comparing trophies too…

  6. ATLRoAcH says:

    One guy on the Playstation Blog said that now when you backup and restore your HDD you don’t lose your trophies on the PS3. I hope this is true because I’ve been waiting for Sony to do this before I upgrade my HDD. My 60 gig is pretty full. I wish someone would confirm this.

  7. bond2e2 says:

    That is tight if trophies go right away, they used to take for ever

  8. @TheHater… How long does it take to do these minor updates? Took me like 5-10 minutes. Jeez man can you please stop nit picking every little thing?

    I’ll love it if there is a time locked special feature that gets released during E3 just like last year when the Vid store magically appeared.

    It only makes Sony look bad when dumbnuts go “This looks bad Sony” and some moron goes “Oh he’s talking bad about Sony must be true then”

    How exactly does it look bad to fix some minor things that take the same amount of time as a snack/piss/crap break. Wah wah wah… once every couple of months you have to wait a few minutes. You don’t know what the update does. It could be the last step before they give you your most wanted feature. You don’t know. So quit being such a pessimist and assuming that everything is as it seems. We’re right before E3 use some logic, some common sense and just give them a benefit of a freaking doubt.

    If you were a Sony insider going “I wish we wouldn’t do these small pointless updates. They really make people waste time and it’s making us look bad.” then maybe you’d have a freaking point.

    How much time are you REALLY wasting doing the update. I want minutes and seconds and how that destroyed your activities for the day. I also want a list of every single change made by this update so that you can point out why each and every one of them is pointless.

    Either that or you can just keep your dang trap shut.

    I would think that there are some tweaks needed in the firmware for the next Home update v1.2 that was delayed last April. They might have found a problem with the FW/OS and needed to adjust it so that the Home update would work better.

  10. Robotron says:

    I hope the Divx codec is fixed because it’s been botched for awhile. At least I have XBMC to fall back on.

  11. Trophies are instantaneous now (i.e. a bit faster than even the last update). We also got the Divx fix that Robotron mentioned. Let’s see what else pops up.

  12. mcx says:

    Could be just a minor fix. Ok off to play some WORMS :)

  13. SolidCake_ says:

    so far:
    1. video format update
    2. Trophies don’t need their game reopened to display after a hard drive upgrade or backup restore
    3. seems faster overall

    I’m all for updates btw, whatever the procedure.

    i don’t mind TheHaters opinion. there realistic…

  15. shadowjin says:

    @ TheHater

    KEEP UP THE OPINIONS DUDE!!!!!!!!!! DONT LET PEOPLE BRING YOU DOWN!! haha :)

  16. Sneeches says:

    getting ready for a big update come E3 my prediction.

  17. shadowjin says:

    @ MakaiOokami

    personally, the updates dont bother me…….my connections blazing fast and rarely mess’s up.

    Sony needs to just add info on what the update actually address.. They should add it by the accept option right before downloading. Just because we are close to E3 doesn’t mean anything. i do agree on that EVERY update adds to something else and is the building blocks to another good feature.

    I would like to mention that this update broke Galatrix. It will not load my save file and wants me to create a new one. I have submitted it to Sony and the PQ peeps. And no comments about buying Galactrix as I have every Game, Retail PSN or DLC extra released for PS3 as a collector and reviewer. But I am seriously ticked. I was 3 gates away from the 30 Leapgate Trophy.

  19. nikrel says:

    @Jeneric
    Did ya’ll win? I didn’t see anything on the website.

    Nice PS3 update, faster trophy updates.

  20. Ryan says:

    As was mentioned, these mysterious firmware updates usually enable some uber-secret feature that pops up right around the corner.

    @TheHater

    There are times when Sony can’t immediately divulge what a new firmware does, especially when they have a big reveal coming up. Guess what’s right around the corner? … … …

  21. DGR8Mc187 says:

    That’s my thoughts this is just an update to prime the PSN for something epic at E#.

  22. GunaK says:

    nice bite size update.
