Price cut! Price cut! Everyone from industry analysts, third-party developers and publishers to retail outlets have been predicting a price cut to the Playstation 3 for months. Sony’s official stance thus far has been to deny the rumors, but that may have just changed (ever so slightly).

During a conference call with overseas investors, Sony corporate executive officer Nobuyuki Oneda raised their 2009 sales goal to 13 million units, a 30% increase. When asked specifically whether this signaled a price cut, Oneda said that Sony had no announcements to make at this time, stating “If we announce our pricing strategies, that affects our inventory level.”

    so secretive… We’ll see at e3.

  2. bond2e2 says:

it could be a price drop…. But they also might have said this because of the games coming out this year for the ps3.
-God Of War 3 (which i beleive is suppose to sell a lot of systems)
    -MAG
    -inFamous
-Cod 6 (Yes it is on Xbox too, but it will sell some)

A price drop would be cool, but we will just have to wait for E3 to find out the truth on all of these rumors. I would say if the PS3 slim is true then there will be a price drop but i hope the PS3 slim does not look like that. But there is a good chance that is a fake

    cant wait to find out.

Yea, he basically just said, “A price cut is coming very soon, but announcing it right now would kill our pockets.”

It makes sense though. Considering everything that is going on right now internally with Sony, their position in the gaming market, and the state of the economy, what logical reason would they have for actually raising fiscal expectations, other than a price cut? All the amazing games coming won’t do it alone. A slim PS3 is a direct result of lower manufacturing costs. Interesting stuff going on lately.

might be one coming at E3, if at all.

  6. bond2e2 says:

I agree that a slim would help sells but also remember that games do play a big part. Look at the sales of the ps3 in japan when just the demo of final fantasy came out. Games sell systems

    @ KwietStorm

    correct except its more

    - “A price cut is coming very soon, but announcing it right customers would wait to buy the system and wed lose sales”
