Sony Initiates Aggressive New Marketing Program

05/17/2009 Written by Kyle P.

Sony has begun a new marketing program in Best Buy stores across America.

Entitled “Experience PlayStation Now”, the program seeks to expand consumers’ knowledge about PlayStation related products. Sony will send PlayStation-educated representatives to Best Buy stores to promote PlayStation products and services. It is not clear on how long this program will last, or if it will spread to other nationwide chains. But it’s certainly a smart, aggressive move.

Sony knows they need a better marketing campaign. not for me though. i owned a PS1 and 2 PS2′s. it just felt natural getting a PS3. especially considering their track record. but of course not everyone is won over as easily as i. more TV ads explaining the benefits of owning a PS3 wouldn’t hurt either. good to see Sony stepping it up though. Best Buy is a good place to start this kind of marketing imho. go Sony.

  2. @TheHater i’ve always been curious why gamestop employees usually diss the PS3 ALL the time. They’re almost always like “You got a PS3? For what?”

Because I don’t like space marines that all look gay and the same, and i don’t like steroided guys with chainsaws unless they’re done in a comical/comic book fashion ok? I don’t have to WAY overcompensate.

The problem with your strategy though The Hater… is they’re trying to reach mostly the people who buy video games. Even though sports would do that, they want the most effective. I can’t really say what medium I think it’d be best on, so for now your plan is better since mine doesn’t exist…

I’m just pissed that people still have to use marketing to sell products. Why can’t consumers be educated when it comes to making 200-500 dollar purchases?

This will definitely help sony with selling of ps3 in America. I bet half of the Americans don’t even know there is a ps3, and just bought an xbox 360.

  6. Man, I hate gamestop’s cheapiness, like with trade ins and all of that. But at least theres people here in Puerto Rico that mostly know what theyre talking about, this friday i went to pre order infamous and the female clerk started pointing out the uncharted 2 trailer that was playing on the screen, telling the customer it would be an amazing game and that he should get it.

They should send some of these Sony reps to The Sony Stores. I don’t know about where everyone else is, but the employees working the stores around my home town are complete idiots. They treat the PS3, peripherals, and games as a last priority and all (if any) of their knowledge is put into selling LCD televisions, cameras, and laptops. I walked in to buy Killzone2 during the week it was released and it wasn’t even on display. No advertising, no demo copy fired up on the display – nothing! I had to ask the sales rep for a copy, and he had to go off and ask someone else if they carried it! This is a Sony exclusive 5+ years in the making and the sales guy didn’t know they sold it?! It should have been in the front window with posters and fanfare!

Oh, and while I’m ranting – SONY GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND BRING THE PSN NETWORK CARDS TO CANADA!!! I”m tired of seeing XBOX360 cards and nothing to compete with them! Plus I have about ten siblings that want to buy shit off the PSN, but none of them are old enough to have a credit card. Oh, and don’t give me that bullshit about buying Vanilla MasterCards for them instead. I have, and they don’t work in Canada yet. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with the MasterCard reps telling them their website was not working, until the guy on the other end decided to check it out, “Oh, that’s weird. The website is not working. Let me see if there is a ticket in place. Yes, there is a ticket opened for this issue.” Christ! Thanks for believing me right away and not wasting my fawkin’ time jackass!

Wow that is a cool move.
Ive got 20 points for whoever meets the first Sony rep (with evidence photo, or video) also see if your knowledge of the PSN is better than theirs and I’ll double the points.

  9. This sounds like we’ll have a walking commercial to breathe down our necks while we’re in BestBuy. I’m not so sure I like this transition.

I’d like to go see what they have to say. Does anyone know what cities they will be doing this “advertising”

great move, but will it ever persuade the hardcore xbot fanboys…most likely not!!!!.
