First details and a partial playlist of FreeStyleGames’ DJ Hero have been released! The controller, or mixer, along with the normal controller buttons will contain a cross-fader, an effect button and a “Euphoria” button. Here’s the partial playlist from the game:
- “Feel Good Inc.” (Gorillaz) vs “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” (Marvin Gaye)
- “Jayou” (Jurassic 5) vs “Rockit” (Herbie Hancock)
- “Bustin’ Loose” (Chuck Brown) vs “Time of the Season” (The Zombies, DJ Shadow Mix)
- “All Apologies” (Nirvana) vs “Give It to Me Baby” (Rick James, DJ Shadow Mix)
- “Let’s Dance” (David Bowie) vs “Jack of Spades” (KRS One, DJ Shadow Mix)
- “Shout” (Tears for Fears) vs “Pjanoo” (Eric Prydz)
So, do you think the current onslaught of music-based games should stop? Or do you think DJ Hero represents the kind of innovation that the music game industry needs? Post your thoughts and feelings in the comment section below.

Someone trying something new and different is always a plus in my books. Even if it totally fails at least they tried.
P.S. – I’m not saying this will fail.
ive never seen a trailer for this game. just the one they tried to hold back from its release date. i think its called scratch it.
@FiftyQuid
these style of games have been around since the PS1-2 era just in japan. Parapara paradise, ddr, forgot the DJ versions name even a drummania. there part of beatmani series games.
I knew this was gonna come. given how popular GH and RB are, despite how much activision flooded the market with sequels and that HMX seems to be well on their way to doing the same thing… it was just a matter of time before someone figured out that a music game could spread faster in the urban market and younger demos if they sold a game that suited the music that they appreciated.
Its not news that rap, r&b and club music are dominating the music scene, so it is only logical to introduce a game that reaches those fans.
It’ll be interesting to see how this turns out. will it be an outstanding win like RB or a epic fail like Rock Revolution? Good luck to freestyle games.
Now THIS is a good idea for a music game… really. Even though I’m not a fan of the music style, this has the potential to actually teach someone how to create music after the PS3 is powered off. Meaning, if they’re interested enough and has the money, they could potentially learn technique for the real thing. I’m not exactly saying it isn’t a music producing device, just more of an instrument to rearrange already existing music. I’d still like to see the decline of the other music games that have prop-instruments, but I’d enjoy it more if people realized the real guitar or bass or drums are more rewarding and fulfilling.
OMG i can’t believe their making this crap lol.
@Sneeches
Seriously.
Yeah , I CAN believe they are making this But that playlist needs some serious changes.
Woo Hoo! Mash-up heaven!
@sneeches,
Not for nothing, I have yet to read any positive feedback from you. how can any comment from you be taken serious when you dont seem to have any taste for games. I respect an opinion, but I just dont see any evidence of you liking anything. Are you at least excited about the massive titles like INfamous, Uncharted 2, GoW, Heavy Rain, and the newest COD?
You at least have to respect that a game like this has huge sales potential even if you are not part of the market demo. Hell, I am not even interested in this game, but I appreciate the angle and believe it could be as big of a addition to the music genre games as RB was for it.
Once there was only fake guitars, then HMX added the full band experience, now rap fans can enjoy pretending to do what interests them… you just can not convince me that this is a bad idea.
storage lockers…
That\’s crazy o.o — Everyone around here drives, you hardly see any bicycles, mostly because there\’s snow on the ground for half the year….
