Sony Considering Music Downloads for PSP

I think we’ve heard it all for Sony’s little handheld machine, the PSP. First we get Skype, then we’re surveyed on a rental service, and now Sony is considering to do music downloads for the portable.

The news comes from CNET, who reports that Sony has contacted major record labels in order to have them release music for the PlayStation Portable. The PSP already has built-in MP3 capabilities, so the idea isn’t far fetched. Thinking of the PSP GO, we may be looking at a handheld with an online rental service, music downloads, slide controls, and more. Looks like Sony’s going for the kill this year.

Music & video never really took off on the PSP before- Sony didn’t really sell it, and PSPs haven’t really been the ideal platform…I guess we’ll see them have another go come E3- perhaps we’ll all be surprised to find the new PSP (when closed) looks and behaves rather like a BIG ipod touch? I’m really hoping it’s going to be a GREAT redesign/update. (holds breath)
