Steve Harris, founder of “Electronic Gaming Monthly” magazine, announced today that he has entered into an agreement with Ziff Davis Media to re-acquire certain assets, including trademarks and publishing rights, with plans to re-launch EGM in the second half of 2009.

“The re-launch of Electronic Gaming Monthly represents a welcome opportunity to continue delivering quality content to gaming enthusiasts,” said Harris. “I feel honored to once again be associated with this respected magazine. The talented writers and designers who built upon EGM’s original vision have left behind a publication that is uniquely positioned to be successful.”

Game Informer has the right path with GameStop. If EGM partnered with a strong video game company to help them with getting the magazine into gamers hands.

Thank god! I love EGM, and I can’t wait to get a new subscription! :D

Who still reads gaming magazines? They are a major waste of money IMO. Internet is a far better source for any kind of news. It’s free, you don’t get advertisements on every page, and you do not have to wait for shipping.

  7. @Brent

A major waste of money? I got a 2 year subscription to Playstation Magazine for $30. I’m willing to bet that you pay more a month for an internet connection than I have for that subscription.

I think the people who still buy and read gaming magazines are the people who like to sit and read. It’s something they’ve done for many years and it’s a hobby of theirs.

I used to subscribe, now I use the internet, I’m not alone. It’s nostalgic and all but I think most magazines have to make room for change.

  9. S#%T YEAH!!! I was heartbroken back when you guys announced the magazine’s collapse but as far as I’m concerned, this news comes as a BOMBSHELL! Usually the info in game magazines are dated in that I’ve already read about it a week or more beforehand on the internet. However, there are columns and articles posted by various authors that I would rather read in magazine form than digital. I’ll probably buy a one-year subscription for their re-launch, maybe another one after that.
    5/5

    I’m just stating my opinion.

  11. Awesome! I’m still working out what’s going to happen with my last subscription – I renewed (for three years!) a month before it was canned, so I only received one issue out of the 36 I was promised…
