Last week, the Blu-Ray sales information was released to the public. For the week of May 24th Blu-Ray sales were up 119% over the same week last year. Blu-Ray seems to be finding its place very nicely in our economy, with many thanks to the PlayStation 3.
While Blu-Ray sales were up last week, DVD sales were down 13% for the same period of time. Although DVD still has the majority of market share, it is refreshing to see that Blu-Ray is catching up. Or rather, replacing it. With only PS3′s counted, there are 21+ million Blu-Ray players in the world, which is no easy feat. It’s easy to see where Blu-Ray would be if the PS3 did not come equipped with the BD Drive and playback feature.

“DVD sales were down 13% for the same period of time” might be a little strong to say Blu-ray is replacing it – correlation vs. causation. It’s just a week’s worth of data. But yeah – for ME, I’ve stopped buying DVDs a while ago.
i hope this means more tv series on blu ray!
Anybody who has seen Blu-Ray playback has to see how much better it is. I can’t believe the people who complain about the price. I remember when VHS first came out, a movie would cost between $75-$100, that was crazy!!! God I’m old.
thats some good news..
sweet, good news and I love blu ray lol.
anyone remember laserdiscs?
Hell yeah I remember laser discs.
Good news that bluray is doing well though.
LOL Laser disc! BD’s will sell a shit-ton more units if the price drops by, say… 15-20%.
