Forever enshrined in gaming lore was Darren Waters’ BBC blog post, in which he posted that he was shown a remarkable unannounced PS3 game; and that it left him completely speechless. Here is an excerpt of his blog post :
“In fact, the game is such a secret that when I mentioned the game to Phil Harrison last week he was unsure at first whether even to admit the title existed. When I explained I had been shown it under strict Non Disclosure Agreement terms he looked relieved.
I don’t mean to be a tease – all I can say is that I was left speechless. If the footage I was shown truly is “in game”, as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion.”
This game was dubbed by the videogame community as the “BBC Mystery Game”. After a year and a half of waiting, the mystery game turns out to be The Last Guardian. The Last Guardian, which was previously known to be Project Trico, wowed audiences with its immersive environment and potential for gameplay. However, Darren isn’t as optimistic about The Last Guardian living up to the hype.
“I’ve carried this secret for so long that it is an incredible relief to finally be able to talk about it openly.
“Obviously, the length of time that has passed between my first glimpse of the game and its unveiling at E3 means that it is impossible for the Last Guardian to live up to the hype built around this so-called ’secret BBC game’.
“As a passionate gamer I’m really excited to see what the final playable game will be like. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are such great titles, and the studio behind them so talented, that while there is a lot to live up to there is plenty of reason for optimism.”

Wait, so this entire thing he was talking about was based on the Trico footage that we showed? Good God.
augh.
that’s sad. But on the other hand The last Guardian looks to be incredible… but not *that* incredible…
oh well, It’s an instant buy for me, so happy happy.
his head must have imploded when he saw the new Drake, or GT5 in game graphics, lol
It’s nice to finally know what he was referring to, thanks kyle.
@ thehater Well the last guardian footage that was leaked and the footage that was just barely released are 2 completely different videos in and of themselves TheHater… so… It’s not as BS as you state.
I think what he was referring to was the heart warming and film like way that they had the story/trailers.
@Solidcake I don’t think it was the graphics that really got him excited, I think it was the narrative style.
why doesnt anybody talk about how ridiculous the animation looked? not only were the graphics great but the way the monster moved and his feathers rippled was really impressive. this game is going to be amazing. obviously after a year the game is going to loose some hype and acclaim… due to the fact that an entire year has passed and many innovations have been released. this game is going to be outstanding.
@makai – I see what you mean now, your right. Another great part of the game is how the bird creature acted like a young animal. It wasn’t just just modeled to look younger, it had the mannerisms of a younger animal – this kind of attention to detail is what makes this game so special.
hype kills games big time… and lets people down. Either way a big secret game doesn’t mean anything to me anymore.
Emo much? j/k Sneeches. I am actually glad to know that this is what he was talking about. so sweet .

This is dumb. Not your article, Kyle P, just how the BBC has dug their own graves. Hyping a game for over a year… hmm, sounds like what happened to GTA4, and we all know how huge of a disappointment THAT was.
