Below you will find the HD footage of one of the biggest E3 surprises, Final Fantasy XIV. The title has been described as “online” but this hasn’t been specified as an MMO or some sort of cooperative gameplay. Honestly this title is very appealing as it seems to get down to the roots of the Final Fantasy legacy. There are no fire arms featured in this trailer nor any pop sensation concerts. Well done Square-Enix. We will be bringing you ALL the latest updates as they become available from the floors of E3.

if its an MMO wont you have to pay monthly for this?

If it is an MMO, there is a good chance you would have to pay. Thats how it works with FFXI. THey use a service known as PlayOnline to handle that so it would not be directly related to your psn account, or they might give the option to use that, but i doubt it. THis is great news and it looks beautiful. After 7 or 8 years of FFXI being on pc, then ps2, then that ‘other system’, it will be nice to see some next gen FF MMO.

Just loved the audience reaction haha. Was essentially the same reaction I had. I’m very excited for this. Been playing FFXI for 5 years now, and it’s been getting boring for me. Would love to see a whole new story, as a Mithra of course
. Also I’m so very glad that it will be on the PS3.

What?! what?! WHAT!? That’s exactly what I said as I was watching it on G4.

The reaction was great. “What?” Haha.
Glad to see Square Enix wants to support the PS3 … hopefully, Microsoft doesn’t wave a big check in front of their face for this title was well.

I was expecting info. on Versus. Nomura is finishing up XIII, so he has more time for Versus and Agito. Then again, he did say that he was waiting for the right time, although I don’t know what that means. Wasn’t XI a somewhat failed attempt?

Wacthing that trailer actually makes me excited. I’m not even your average Final Fantasy player (I’ve played the 8-bit NES games and then FF8), but this looks hella fun!
5/5

I’m almost 90% sure it is a timed exclusive. Which of course means Microsoft will pretend to steal this one away at the next E3, but from the words used it seems like it is multi-platform as of this moment:
“And Playstation 3 will be the only console you’ll be able to play Final Fantasy XIV on when it launches in 2010.”
He never uses the words “Exclusive”. In fact logically looking at that statement a timed exclusive is much more likely.
And… There was no “Only on Playstation 3″ text, sure Square might not feel right putting that up with the way it backfired last time, but still.
And at the Square conference, if the blog I read earlier is true, Square mentioned how they are considering other platforms. I hate Microsoft as much as the next guy, but let’s not get carried away just yet.
