During the weeks leading up to E3, many industry analysts speculated that Sony would announce a price cut for the PS3. However, E3 came and went, and still, there hasn’t been any announcement. Reports are circulating that Sony may be planning on a price cut, sooner than you think.
According to Arvind Bhatia, who works for Sterne Agee, we can expect a PS3 price drop of $100 dollars sometime in mid-August.
“Industry sources indicate Sony is planning a $100 price cut on the PS3 in mid-August, just prior the launch of Madden (8/18) and the start of the back to school shopping season. This will naturally be a positive for the industry.”
Now, we cannot confirm the validity of this, so for now, we are labeling this as a rumor.

I was going to buy another PS3 for my son next week, but if there is indeed a price drop on the way, I can wait until August.
Peace,

Can we stop it with all this price drop drama? It’s been going on since GDC this year and i’m getting tired of hearing about it. Let’s just wait until it’s official and stop reporting on these analyst who clearly don’t know what they are talking about.

The more people EXPECT a price drop to come, the less likely they are to purchase now. I agree and don’t like people thinking if they get something NOW it’s a bad deal. Buy it now, it’s worth the money.

@Smokey it’s been going on since BEFORE GDC. People have been talking about it since the arcade went lower in price than the Wii.
There does need to be a price drop for the new PSP though. They need to have it out at 200 dollars cause Iphones new 16GB model is 200 dollars and has a built in 30 fps 3mpixel camera.
Sony stated that the PSP Go! is competing against the iphone, and Michael Patcher doesn’t think that the 16GB addition costs more to produce than the UMD drive that’s missing. If that is indeed the case they do need the price to be around 200 for the PSP Go!
Question though… Why is “All the kids are going back to school,” the perfect time to release a price drop? Is it because it’s that much closer to the holidays? Cause… all the kids will be in school… Kids like video games… Bananas are tasty…

Most, and I stress MOST stores do honor a “good faith” deal, in which case a customer has 30 days from purchase date to return for a refunded difference in price if product were to drop in price. That covers sales, suggested retail price drops etc.. The length in days varies from business to business but usually is between 2-4 weeks.

Price drop??? Hell don’t be surprised to see a new model come out with the new price. Didn’t this happen last year at E-3 in July they announced a new 80gb model that replaced the 40gb model at the same price, this was a price drop since you got a larger size HDD for the same price of the 40gb. So most price drops may happen in late August??? And the new model came out in early Sept.
Don’t be surprised to see the slim coming out in October(??) or at least announced at Tokyo Game Show.
