God of War 3 Surpasses Predecessor’s CGI

06/10/2009 Written by JohnDraisey

Back in 2005 when the PS3 was originally unveiled, Sony made a bold promise that we would be seeing, at the very least, CGI-quality graphics on Sony’s new platform, yet was keen enough not to give a solid time frame. Well, they’ve fulfilled their promise a lot faster than we had originally hoped for with the impending release of God of War 3.

The photo collage below contains two CGI renders from God of War 2′s cinematics, and two in-game screenshots from God of War 3. Let’s see if you guys and gals can figure out which screenshots belong to which games/platforms. Special thanks to BadAssGamerBlog for the photos.

  1. That is awesome. I can’t wait for this game to come out.

  2. well, i reckon A and D belong to the same game. And they’e the clearest too

  3. NewYork214 says:

C and D are from God of war 2. C was when he was stabbed and D was when he killed a certain person on accident at the end of gow2,wont say who though.

u can tell the difference from the scar on his eye also the cgi trailers u can see the stich markings clearer. but it is crazy how close they look and the game still has 9 months of dev time

  4. ^^ I noticed the stitches as well, and without any previous knowledge of GoW. This is phenomenal, seeing that they’ve achieved CG equivalent graphics. I can’t wait to see more and more titles reaching this status.

  5. A, B and D are all PS3 and C is PS2…there not very difficult!

  6. RIDER121 says:

A & B are the screenshots from GOD3 the A picture is from the E3 2009 demo and B is from another gameplay C & d are GOD 2 if u seen the GOD E3 09 gameplay trailer u will instantly know the screenshots

  7. shadowjin says:

cool stuff, i wonder how the final game will look like.

  8. Jeneric says:

my guess is a and b are gameplay and c and d are cgi. the skin color gives it away for me.

  9. SolidCake_ says:

B sums up Kratos rather nicely :-)

  10. KwietStorm says:

Well I have all the exisiting games, so A and B are from God of War III (in-game), and C and D are from CGI cinemas in God of War II. Really amazing what they’ve done, and the game isn’t even complete yet. The in-game models in Killzone 2 also nearly match up with the CGI in the same game.

EDIT: Funny how many of you are wrong. I figured everybody would know the right images. Guess that just shows how good the graphics really are.

Actually I believe B is from GoW 2 because I feel like I remember ripping that guys head off. I think A and D are from the new GoW, and B and C are CGI from GoW 2.

  12. I think A and B are from 2 and C and D are from 3. either way I cannot wait for this game, they need to get a set date and leave it there.

  13. [...] Burnout series doesn’t exactly push a console to the limits like, say, a Metal Gear Solid or God of  War title would. No doubt, Criterion’s claims do prove true for even the biggest [...]
