I agree tho the Karma system was a load of bull. IGN said in their preview of the game that the karma system isnt a binary thing where its one or the other and you can choose as you go, and you can buuuutt (and its a big but) you wouldnt unlock any of the final upgrades for powers if you go back and forth so it really isnt a binary choice but to be able to unlock all upgrades for good or evil powers you have to play that game all the way making choice A the whole time or choice B.
