Ed Boon has come out and confirmed that Mortal Kombat 9 will return to its roots, meaning an M-rated title is coming.

Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe was rated T for Teen, mostly because of the newly added superhero roster. Ed Boon revealed the title via his Twitter.

“People want an M-rated MK….dammit we will give them an M-rated MK.”

Boon also revealed that they were already working on motion capture for the fatalities in the new Mortal Kombat.

“Doin some kool fatalities. I hope we aren’t taking these too far.  :(“

Recent casting calls for the new Mortal Kombat have hinted that the game will be a prequel, set in between Mortal Kombat II and III. This has fueled further speculation that Mortal Kombat will be a sequel to the highly-praised Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks.
